Chapter 11 A Midnight Dream

After a day and night of stomach pumping and first aid, Elsa finally woke up.
"Can I have another chance? I'm sure I can finish it all." Elsa, pale-faced with stitches on her forehead. Even so, she still pulled a smile and negotiated with Luke.
"I'll give you another chance. Why did you tempt me to marry you?" Luke showed no emotion as he looked down at Elsa.
She almost died in the hospital last night, but now she could still smile. Luke thought, ‘This woman was a complete lunatic.’
"Because I like you." Elsa forced a smile, saying.
As an adult, even if he was slow on emotions, he knew she was lying.
Because her eyes weren't on him, which proclaimed that she approached him with purpose.
"Elsa, you're lying."
"Luke, you're doubting your charm."
"No matter what you want, the Taylor family won't accept a saleswoman in the bar. Let's call it quits. Don't bother me again," Luke said, pulling out his checkbook.
He was too accustomed to solving problems with money and power, and that's how he had always done it.
He skillfully wrote a new check and tossed it to her.
"You didn't cash the last check, and it's about to expire. I'll give you another two hundred thousand. Don’t waste time on me; I think you need money more."
The two hundred thousand would be enough for her to get a heart transplantation for her brother, but she couldn't take Luke's money.
She thought it was already unfair to Luke to be entangled with her and be used as a pawn in avenging her mother's death.
"I don't want it." She shook her head but only saw Luke walking away.

Elsa had a rest then.

When Elsa woke up again, it was already dusk. Her mouth was dry, but she didn't want to move, so she endured the thirst and fell back into a deep sleep.
She suddenly dreamed of her mother.
In the dream, it was the amusement park where she used to go as a child. Elsa was wearing a red dress, sitting on the carousel, moving up and down with the music and joyful laugh.
"Mom, look at me." She waved and shouted to her mother outside the ride.
Her mother smiled gently, took a picture of her with the camera, and lifted her off when the music stopped.
"Elsa, take care of yourself even when I'm not around."
Her mother's kiss landed on her cheek. Meanwhile, a tear rolled down her face.
"Don't go!"
Elsa woke up abruptly, sitting up suddenly.
She felt like a drowning person just pulled out of the water, taking the first breath that filled her lungs with an aching chest and wet face.
"Who did you dream of?"
Luke's cold voice was particularly clear in the silent night. Didn't he leave? When did he come back?
"I didn't dream of anyone," Elsa said awkwardly, lacking her usual cleverness.
"With so many guilty deeds, it's inevitable to feel guilty,” Luke snorted coldly and left again.
‘He doesn’t come back just to mock me, does he?’ she thought.
She wiped away her tears and sat still for a long time before coming back to her senses. Then she wanted to get up and find some water to drink, only finding a large thermos at the bedside.
She saw dried scallops and vegetable congee, a few light dishes, and even a thermos filled with hot water.
She thought, ‘So, did he just go out to order food for me?’
"Miss, your boyfriend is really considerate, staying with you for a day and night," the nurse on duty said while looking at Elsa eating congee,
Elsa smiled and didn't say anything.
Although Luke despised her, he didn't put her in a desperate situation even when she threatened him like that. Instead, he even gave her so much money. He didn't owe her anything, and it was indeed bothersome for her to pester him to marry her.
Elsa ate her congee, wanting to thank Luke, but realized she didn't even have his contact information.
“Forget it,” she muttered to herself.
Marrying him was a desperate move. Maybe before she even started to retaliate against Phyllis and Karen, Luke would have her killed.
As paranoid as she was, she needed to think of another way.
