Chapter 38: She Can't Stay Here
In the hospital room, Elsa had sensed the movement beside her before she got up. Luke kept his eyes closed and didn't move, letting her leave.
Luke was a picky eater, accustomed to food prepared by top chefs since childhood. By his standards, the noodles Elsa made yesterday were just ordinary.
But he enjoyed the feeling of being taken care of by her too much. Just the thought of this sharp-tongued woman cooking for him made him happy.
He even made up his mind that even if Elsa made something unappetizing this time, he would still finish it.
But he waited until nine in the morning, and Elsa still hadn't returned.
Instead, it was Debbie who, hearing the news from somewhere, rushed to the hospital to see him.
Debbie's eyes turned red when she saw Luke's appearance.
"If it weren't for that club hostess, you and Karen wouldn't be in this situation." Skipping the matter of Karen's accident, Debbie blamed Elsa.
She wasn't insisting that Luke marry Karen, but Elsa's reputation as a club hostess was notorious, and she couldn't accept it. Plus, the first time she saw Elsa in the villa, she felt that this girl was uncontrollable. If she were to marry Luke, it might not be good for the Taylor family.
"Compared to that club hostess, Karen, who is a pianist with a respectable background, is more gentle and far more suitable for you.
"If you absolutely won't marry Karen, even if you marry a factory worker, a hospital nurse, or even a dishwasher in a restaurant, I could accept it. But I can't accept someone who sells liquor in a club."
Debbie nagged at Luke for a long time.
"I have decided to marry her, I hope you can respect my choice," Luke simply said.
No matter what Debbie said, he couldn't listen anymore.
The two couldn't come to an agreement, and Debbie left with an unpleasant expression in the end.
Seeing that neither of the Misses Miller had brought breakfast, Max ordered a meal from a five-star hotel to be delivered to the hospital, but Luke didn't even look at the food that was brought.
By noon, he couldn't help but call Elsa, but her phone was off.
He frowned. What was wrong with this woman? Did she leave in the morning just because she didn't want to take care of him later?
From morning until night, Elsa didn't return, and her phone remained off.
Luke didn't eat a single bite, looking very upset.
He thought he held some importance in her heart, but it seemed not. When he saw her again, he would definitely scold her a lot.
She told Karen that Luke was her man, and this was how she treated her man?
That night, Luke had trouble sleeping rarely. He tossed and turned, with nightmares of Elsa crying in his arms.
For some reason, he felt uneasy.
"Take me to Elsa's home." At two in the morning, Luke couldn't help but change his clothes and call Max.
Max had investigated Elsa thoroughly and knew exactly where she lived. In less than 20 minutes, he had brought Luke to her building.
It was an old, dilapidated building, with no security booth at the entrance, and several broken streetlights outside.
"Elsa lives in a place like this?" Luke frowned. How could she live in an environment with such a lack of security?
"She's just renting. Leslie made quite a bit of money when she was alive, but Vincent's illness requires a lot of money. She's really resilient." The more Max investigated Elsa, the more he admired her. Although she was a bit sharp-tongued, she was truly inspirational.
Luke remained silent, thinking Elsa couldn't stay here. He cherished her so much that he can't bear to see her accommodation conditions. Tomorrow, he would have someone move her to the villa.
When they arrived at Elsa's building, Luke asked Max to go back first.
There were very few residents in the building, and the hallway was pitch dark. He used his phone's light to fumble for the Elsa's door.
After knocking for a long time, there was no response.
'Perhaps she isn't home,' Luke thought in frustration. She was becoming more disobedient. Where could she have gone so late?
Just as he was about to leave, he heard a faint sound of water coming from inside the room.
Her phone had been off all day, yet she was at home and didn't open the door for him. What was going on with Elsa?
"Elsa, open the door!" Luke shouted.
After a while, the sound of water stopped, but there was still no response.
