Chapter 298 Unavoidable Confrontation
"With fractured hand, you need a surgery to drain fluid and then put a cast."
In the early hours at Valley of Hope Hospital, Karida looked at Luke's X-ray with a headache.
"Since you two have divorced, just move on. Continuing to entangle with her will only cause more pain and sorrow." In the past, he had high hopes for Luke and Elsa, but seeing their current situation, he could only advise them to part ways amicably.
Luke remained silent. He watched quietly as Karida numbed his hand, made an incision, drained the fluid with a syringe, and then stitched it up.
Luke drove himself from Elsa's place and naturally drove back alone.
At dawn, Karida escorted Luke to the parking lot and said, "While the anesthesia is still working and your hand doesn't hurt, hurry home and get some rest."
"I can't live without her." Luke suddenly lowered the car window and blurted out. His eyes were filled with sorrow.
Karida had known Luke for many years and had never seen him so vulnerable. For a moment, he felt a pang of discomfort in his heart.
After they said their goodbyes, Luke drove out of the Valley of Hope Hospital parking lot with one hand.
It was rush hour, and the traffic outside was dense. A pink Panamera approached from the opposite direction.
During the traffic jam, both cars lowered their windows simultaneously.
"Long time no see, Mr. Taylor." Leo hooked his sunglasses down from his nose with one finger, his tone frivolous and full of mockery.
"Leo, if you want to establish yourself here, stay away from Elsa." Luke's gaze at Leo was fierce and unyielding.
"Elsa is my personal assistant; keeping a distance might be difficult." Leo chuckled, emphasizing the word "personal."
"Besides," he added with a playful look. "Who wouldn't want to play with the woman Mr. Taylor loves?"
Luke's eyes were cold, but his expression remained arrogantly superior. "You might not be able to bear the consequences."
"Then I'll wait and see." Leo sneered and put his sunglasses back on.
As the traffic slowly moved forward, Luke raised the window and stared blankly at the road ahead.
He should have known that a treasure like Elsa, once lost, would attract many people eager to win her over.
But at that time, he had no choice but to divorce. At every critical moment when she needed him, he wasn't there. He was completely wrong!
A message notification sounded. It was a voice recording from Karida, and Luke quickly opened it.
Elsa's voice came out firstly. "Mr. Griffin, has Luke been there? How's his hand?"
Karida's tone was serious. "He came. His entire hand is fractured, and there's fluid buildup. It's very serious."
Elsa was silent for a second.
"Please take good care of him," she suddenly said quietly.
"Elsa, Luke still love you. If you still care about him, then..." Karida couldn't finish her sentence as Elsa hung up the phone.
She still cared about him! This realization made Luke's heart race, and his left hand on the steering wheel trembled slightly.
Although Elsa didn't care about rumors, her life was still disturbed.
Now she avoided going out as much as possible. If she had to go out, she wore a mask and sunglasses to prevent online harassment from spilling into real life and causing unnecessary harm.
Despite her precautions, there were still times she couldn't avoid trouble.
At the small supermarket at the entrance of her community, while she buying some essential items, a malicious voice rang out. "It really is you, Elsa!"
Jasmine was looking at her with a smug, gloating expression.
"Ms. Taylor, it's interesting that you come all the way here to shop at the supermarket near my home." Elsa glanced at Jasmine from behind her sunglasses with disgust, remaining unflustered.
"I just wanted to see how you're doing now. As expected, it's pretty bad." Jasmine's voice was loud, attracting some people to gather.
"Ms. Taylor, you've seen it now. Shouldn't you be leaving?" Elsa felt physically uncomfortable talking to Jasmine and just wanted to check out and leave quickly.
"So you're Elsa." Suddenly, a drunken man in the crowd approached them.
Elsa took a half step back without showing any emotion.
"It's her!" Jasmine immediately shouted. "Everyone, come and see. She's Elsa!"
There were only few onlookers initially. Jasmine's position near the entrance quickly attracted a crowd of passersby.
"Elsa, are all those things said online true?"
"She really is beautiful, even with sunglasses on."
"You interfered in someone else's marriage. Don't you feel ashamed?"
A group of people surrounded Elsa, bombarding her with questions.
The drunken man suddenly lunged forward and snatched her sunglasses.
"How about me, Ms. Miller?" He leaned close to Elsa, reeking of alcohol.
