Chapter 403 Karen's Return

It was Chloe who sent the picture.

The photo was taken through a car window, showing an elderly woman with a slight hunch standing in front of a small pancake stall.

The woman had a cloth bag slung over her arm, her hair was gray, and her wool coat was wrinkled, old, and dirty. Despite wearing a mask, Elsa recognized her immediately.

"Is that Phyllis?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah."

"Why is she out so early?"

Luke had been thorough back then, and Chloe remembered that Phyllis was supposed to be locked up for at least three more years.

"I don't know, but I suspect I'm in for a rough time." Elsa's tone was consistently calm and indifferent, but her mind was racing with alarm.

"David's in prison, Karen fled abroad, what kind of trouble can Phyllis stir up? Look at her now, so shabby. After living the good life for a few years, she didn't appreciate it, did all the bad things, and now she's paying the price. Anyone would say she deserves it."

Chloe's tone was full of disdain.

"Chloe, do you know the cockroach rule?" Elsa thought for a moment before speaking. "If you find one cockroach in your house, it means there are at least ten thousand more you can't see. If we see Phyllis, it's possible the Miller family might be making a comeback."

"How could that be? The Miller family has no power left," Chloe was shocked.

"As long as they're alive, there's always a possibility. Besides, Karen isn't completely without resources. She still has her looks, and that face can be exchanged for money or even a life if necessary."

"She's not worth that much," Chloe scoffed.

"Whether she's worth it or not isn't up to us. Remember how the Miller family made their comeback? It was because Karen hooked up with Dylan."

"That's true."

Chloe was silent for a moment before saying, "I'll look into Karen's whereabouts. It's best to nip this in the bud before it becomes a problem."

Elsa's guess was correct; Karen had indeed used her looks to make a comeback.

In Valeria, she latched onto a wealthy man in his sixties, changed her nationality, her name, and even had significant plastic surgery.

Phyllis's early release was naturally orchestrated by Karen. In fact, Karen had already quietly entered the country, waiting for an opportunity to eliminate Elsa.

When Karen returned to Maplewood City, Phyllis had already been freed through Karen's remote operations. The first thing Karen did wasn't to visit her mother but to go to the psychiatric hospital to find Margaret.

Margaret had initially only suffered from post-traumatic stress and hadn't completely lost her mind. Luke had kept her under close watch in the psychiatric hospital for several months, and now she was utterly insane.

Seeing Margaret's condition, Luke had relaxed his management, letting her fend for herself in the psychiatric hospital. Karen pretended to be Margaret's cousin and quickly gained access.

Karen was shocked when she saw Margaret.

In just a few months, Margaret had become emaciated beyond recognition.

She was wearing a dirty hospital gown, her hair was a mess, her eyes were deeply sunken, and she was curled up in the corner of the bed, silent and listless.

Karen was greatly alarmed.

Although she was abroad, she had been closely monitoring the situation back home. When Margaret went missing and was found, Karen knew the secret was out.

Karen hadn't expected Luke to be so ruthless towards Margaret.

"Margaret, do you still recognize me?" She asked softly as she approached.
