Chapter 172 Scars

Debbie was fuming after getting Elsa's note.

Elsa was always acting out and being a total brat. The more she pulled her stunts, the more Debbie felt like divorcing was the right move for Luke.

"Call Luke and tell him I'm not feeling well," Debbie told the butler. She had just blocked Luke and didn't want to call him herself.

When Elsa called Luke, he was already thinking about asking his mom what the latest drama was about. Hearing from the butler that Debbie was sick and hadn't eaten for days, he headed straight to her place after work.

"Where's Debbie?" Luke asked the maid when he couldn't find his mom.

"She's been in her room all day and won't come out," the maid replied. Luke nodded and went to her room.

Debbie was in her room, already knowing Luke was on his way. She was holding a photo of Arthur and wiping away tears.

"Arthur, you told Luke to protect me and uphold the family. He's done that. He's always considered my feelings."

"But Arthur, I'm scared Elsa will ruin everything the Taylor family has built. She has a bad heart. But as Luke's mom, I can't convince him. It's my failure."

Debbie initially wanted to make Luke feel guilty, but she ended up crying while holding Arthur's photo.

Luke stood outside, feeling conflicted. He knew his mom was putting on a show, but her beef with Elsa was real.

Debbie didn't get Elsa, and no amount of praise would change that.

"Mom, you should rest now," Luke said softly from the doorway after she finished crying.

Debbie stopped crying and said sternly, "Luke, come here."

Luke had no choice but to comply and walk over.

"The Taylor family expects the the lady of the house to be virtuous and respectful. Does Elsa meet any of that? She doesn't even respect her own father; how could she respect me!" Debbie exclaimed.

Luke had never shared Elsa's personal matters with Debbie, and hearing this, he frowned.

"Mom, that's Elsa's private matter. Don't judge her based on it." The Miller family was a forbidden topic for Elsa. Debbie shouldn't use it against her.

"I won't mention the Miller family if Elsa is no longer part of the Taylor family. What she does after that is her business," Debbie said.

"Mom, the marriage agreement was made by Grandpa and Elsa's mom, Leslie," Luke replied.

"That's just Elsa's side of the story!"

"Mom, the things you've heard are even more biased!"

Luke and Debbie ended up parting on bad terms again.

On the way back, Luke thought about Elsa's call. The more he thought about it, the more he felt something was off. His mom must have said something to her.

Luke knew his mom well. She seemed strong-willed and domineering, but she wasn't hard to deal with. If Elsa would just say a few kind words, things wouldn't have escalated.

If Elsa used even a bit of her smarts to appease his mom, it would be enough.

He felt he needed to talk to Elsa.

By the time he got back to the villa, it was evening, but Elsa wasn't there.

He called her, but she didn't answer.
