Chapter 264 "Three days ago, we were still swapping spit."

Elsa was detained in a small temporary holding cell in the southern part of the city.

According to the people who arrested her, it was David who insisted that he was incited to smuggle, and her motive was the clearest, making her the prime suspect.

The cell was narrow, without windows. Without the scheduled lighting, once the door was closed, the room was pitch dark.

Elsa was taken there in the morning, sat on a chair waiting for interrogation until the evening without any movement.

Although she had mentally prepared herself beforehand, she couldn't help but feel anxious now.

No one came to interrogate her, but someone did bring her food. Seeing that she hadn't touched her lunch, the person kindly asked if it wasn't to her taste.

The friendly demeanor made Elsa want to laugh. "Can I order something else?"

The young staff member was at a loss for words and left with an embarrassed look.

By evening, Elsa still couldn't eat, leaving the dinner untouched.

She always knew that sometimes strangers treated her well because of her looks, but her appearance couldn't reduce her sentence. It was somewhat bearable here, but the truly tough days might start once she entered prison.

She didn't regret anything she had done. The only regret was not reporting this good news at Leslie's grave.

As night fell, the lights in the room came on. Elsa had been in a daze in the cell all day when she heard someone knocking on the door from outside. "Elsa, you have a visitor."

Elsa could easily guess it was either someone from within the police department or a powerful figure from Maplewood City.

One of the lights in the visiting room was broken, making it particularly dim.

The camera wasn't blinking. She didn't know if it was already broken or if it conveniently malfunctioned knowing Luke was coming.

Luke sat upright in the chair. Noticing her gaze, he raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly.

In the past, he only got a rush of hormones and impulsiveness when he saw her in all her allure and mystery. Now, he had reached the point where just seeing her eyes made his lower abdomen heat up.

"I heard you haven't eaten all day. Are you scared?" Luke crossed his legs, with an unusual hint of roguishness, leaned back in the chair, and lit a cigarette for himself.

Elsa hadn't had water all day, her throat was burning dry.

"Give me one." She admitted the psychological pressure was too much. Maybe a cigarette could help relieve it.

A trace of pity flashed in Luke's eyes, but he maintained a calm smile. He took the cigarette from his lips and extended his arm to hand it over.

Elsa was visibly stunned for a moment and didn't take it.

"If I remember correctly, three days ago we were still swapping spit. A few days apart and now you find it dirty."

"We're divorced." Elsa suppressed the sudden shameful emotion in her heart and reminded him expressionlessly.

Luke was out of his mind to talk about sex!

"I think I might consider remarrying." Luke stood up and pressed the slightly wet cigarette he had been holding to Elsa's lips.
