Chapter 321 A Chance Encounter at the Cat Café
"Ms. Phillips, we're not suitable for each other." Luke noticed Hailey's embarrassment and stopped teasing her. Instead, he poured her a cup of coffee and said it earnestly.
Hearing this from Luke felt like an insult to Hailey.
"Luke, what makes you think I'm not good enough for you? How dare you reject me first!"
Luke saw Hailey much like he saw his cousin Nathan. To him, she was more like a cute, immature child.
So Luke smiled and said, "Ms. Phillips, it's me who's not good enough for you. How about you reject me instead?"
Hailey's shame and anger didn't lessen with this statement. Her eyes reddened with frustration. "What do I lack compared to your ex-wife?"
Elsa was Luke's Achilles' heel. Mentioning her made Luke's face turn cold immediately.
"I have to go to work now. Please leave, Ms. Phillips."
He stepped past Hailey, ready to head out.
Panicking, Hailey grabbed Luke's sleeve.
"Mr. Taylor, I'm sorry. Please don't be mad." Though inexperienced in relationships, she knew she had touched a sore spot for Luke and felt a wave of guilt.
Luke looked at Hailey, who was anxiously trying to appease him, and his anger slowly dissipated. In the brief interaction, he realized that although Hailey had a childish temper, she was straightforward and not difficult to get along with.
"Alright, I'm not mad," he said awkwardly.
"Then, since I'm already here, how about we go out and have some fun? I'll treat you to coffee, and maybe we can develop some feelings." Hailey said, shaking Luke's arm.
Before meeting Luke, she had seen his photos but didn't expect him to be much more handsome in person. She suddenly wanted to get to know him better.
Luke was taken aback by Hailey's straightforwardness.
Elsa fled from Luke's villa and arrived at the company before official working hours.
In the elevator, she ran into Leo, who was coming up from the underground parking lot. He was surprised, "Didn't you take a two-hour leave?"
"I don't need it anymore," Elsa said gloomily, turning her head towards the elevator door, ignoring him.
Leo rarely saw Elsa show any emotion. He thought she was the type who could calmly walk down the stairs even during a 10-magnitude earthquake.
But now, she looked a bit dejected.
"Finish up your work quickly. I'll take you to a nice place later," Leo said, leaning against the doorframe of Elsa's office.
Elsa looked at him questioningly.
At ten in the morning, Leo drove Elsa through a maze of streets to the entrance of a narrow alley in the city.
His car couldn't go in, so he parked it somewhere and walked. Elsa followed closely behind, unsure of what Leo was up to.
"Here we are," Leo suddenly said in front of a store with a cartoon sign.
It was a trendy cat café. As soon as the door opened, dozens of cats of various sizes stared at them.
Leo's stern face kept the cats at a distance. But as soon as Elsa walked in, a large Ragdoll cat, weighing about twenty or thirty pounds, leaped into her arms.
Elsa let out a delighted gasp and hugged the cat tightly.
"How did you find this place?" Elsa asked, temporarily forgetting her morning troubles as she petted the Ragdoll cat in her arms. She knew that with Leo's limited English, finding such a place was no easy feat.
"Do you like it?" Leo asked, looking pleased with himself.
"Of course," Elsa's voice was noticeably more cheerful.
Her eyes never left the white cat in her arms. She extended her hand to shake its paw while speaking.
From ten in the morning until noon, Elsa's attention was entirely on the adorable cats in the café. She petted each of the friendly cats, and her tense nerves gradually relaxed.
"Pets really do have a healing effect," she remarked, burying her face in a cat's belly as they were about to leave. She had ordered a cup of coffee but hadn't had a chance to drink it.
"Did something happen that you need healing from? Could it be related to Luke?" Leo finally couldn't help but ask.
Elsa replied, "Can you not mention such an annoying person at such a happy moment?"
But life was unpredictable. Just as she was about to leave after petting the cats, Luke arrived.
The pretty girl beside him must be Hailey, right?
Elsa and Luke locked eyes, and she felt rooted to the spot.
