Chapter 245 Mrs. Taylor Hasn't Come Back

"Are they really giving up all those consultation fees?" Chloe couldn't help but inquire as she watched Elsa hang up the phone.

"Of course, he's too scared to take the case," Saying, Elsa rolled her eyes.

Chloe questioned, "So what are you going to do?"

Elsa answered, "I'll handle it myself."

Given Elsa's understanding of Luke, switching to another lawyer wouldn't make a difference. She had a basic grasp of how to handle the property transfer, and she figured she could manage the rest on her own, though it would be a hassle.

"You two are crazy. So much money, one insists on giving it back, and the other insists on not taking it," Chloe complained.

"If we're going to split, it should be clean. I can't take advantage of him," Elsa sighed.

Elsa stayed a few more days until the bandages on her head were removed, and then she completed the discharge procedures.

After being discharged, Chloe took her to a small apartment.

"This apartment was bought by my family when I was in high school. It's small, but it has everything you need. Please make do with it," said Chloe as she efficiently made the bed in the bedroom.

"I'm getting a divorce, not running away from home," Elsa said, exasperated; she needed to find a place where she could be prepared for a long-term stay.

"I know. Instead of paying rent to someone else, you might as well pay me. You can owe me for now and settle it at the end of the year." Chloe stated. She had always complained about Elsa's previous place every time she visited. It was not only small but also had poor security.

If she had outright offered Elsa to stay in her apartment, Elsa would have refused because of her personality. That's why Chloe was only telling her now.

This apartment, though small, was in a good location, and the property fees were higher than the rent Elsa used to pay.

"Alright," Elsa said, feeling a warmth in her heart as she watched Chloe busy herself with airing out the place, controlling the robot vacuum to clean, and plugging in the water heater.

"But who ever heard of paying rent at the end of the year? And you call yourself a businesswoman," she couldn't help but expose her.

"Do I need your little bit of money?" Chloe rolled her eyes as she said, "If you want a divorce, then get it done. Once you've settled the score, I think you should go back to school."

"I've prepared a million dollars for you. It's not much, but if you spend it wisely, it should be enough."

Chloe was always like this, quietly doing so much for her without ever taking credit or using their friendship to guilt her. Chloe, Jonathan, Jonny, and Luke had all been so good to her.

Even though she and Luke had missed their chance, she was truly grateful that he had been a part of her life. Elsa's eyes reddened.

"Thank you," she said, her eyes brimming with tears.

Once everything was settled, Elsa grabbed her bag and headed out.

She needed to go back to the villa and have a formal talk with Luke.

Since that day he returned from the hospital, Luke had thrown himself into his work like a madman.

He worked tirelessly during the day and drank with Terry and Karida at night, losing weight over the course of a few days.

He had always had a smooth life, never feeling this helpless before.

He and Elsa had faced difficulties together, but this time, he no longer had the confidence to resolve everything!

When Elsa was determined, she could even hurt herself. How hard could it be for her to leave him?

He appeared calm on the surface, but inside, he was terrified.

The thought of losing her made him feel like he couldn't go on.

"Elsa was discharged this morning. Her attending physician said she still needs to continue a few medications for a full course," Karida sent a prescription to Luke and reminded him.

Luke was startled and called home.

"Mrs. Taylor hasn't come back today. Is something wrong, Mr. Taylor?" Lisa asked, confused.

She hadn't come back. Was she planning to never return to this home?
