Chapter 226 Mom, I Got Married
"Don't mind Jasmine, she's just spoiled," Luke said, pulling Elsa into his arms and looking down at her face.
"I don't waste my energy on people who don't matter," Elsa replied sincerely. She was naturally cold-hearted and held deep resentment. She didn't even bother with Margaret's provocations, let alone Jasmine's.
Luke held Elsa tighter, kissed her eyes, and sighed, "Sometimes I don't even know how to make you happy."
Elsa felt a stir in her heart; she gazed at Luke with a touch of emotion but said nothing in the end.
As they were about to leave, Debbie brought over a ton of health supplements, so many that the trunk couldn't fit them all, and some had to be placed on the back seat.
On the way home, Elsa leaned on Luke's shoulder and clicked her tongue, "Your family sure has a way with money."
Luke raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
"You all love throwing money around." Luke did it for her, Jasmine did it for Jonny, and now Debbie was doing the same.
Even little Nathan used his allowance to buy Elsa lollipops.
Luke chuckled, "We're not just throwing money around. Families like ours respect money and spend it on things that matter."
"Does your mom think I'm worth it?" Elsa looked back at him, asking.
The usually mature and wise Elsa suddenly showed a naive and innocent expression, which fascinated him.
"You're not confident?" Luke, enticed by her look, lifted her chin and kissed her soft lips. He said softly, "You did great today."
Luke cradled her like a baby, pressing his forehead against hers and whispering.
With the reconciliation of the two most important women in his life, Luke felt his happiness soar.
As for Jasmine, after running out and crying, she felt that her argument with Elsa was beneath her. She reviewed it alone and remembered Elsa's words, "Margaret jumped into the lake to frame me."
Indeed, Margaret had always wanted to be with Luke after her divorce. How did she not think of that?
Revived by Elsa's reminder, Jasmine immediately perked up.
She dialed Margaret's number, "Ms. Collins, do you have time tomorrow? Shall we grab a coffee?"
The day after Tomorrow's Gathering was the anniversary of Leslie's death.
Elsa, who had barely slept, got up at five in the morning. She didn't want to wake Luke, so she quietly washed up, changed clothes, and went out.
Maplewood City was bustling, and in contrast to the festive atmosphere, the cemetery seemed especially lonely and desolate.
Elsa, wearing a black ankle-length coat over a white dress and holding a bouquet of lilies, treaded the gravel path, intensifying the solemn atmosphere.
"You're here to see your mom again, young lady," the old man who watched over the cemetery greeted Elsa from afar. She was probably his most familiar face of the year.
Elsa nodded, greeted him back, and walked straight to Leslie's grave.
It had been a year since Leslie passed away.
Looking at Leslie's kind smile on the tombstone, Elsa felt a pang in her heart.
She stood silently, unable to hold back her tears.
She cried for what seemed like an eternity as the sky gradually brightened and tiny snowflakes began to fall.
"Mom, I forgot to tell you last time; I got married." After crying enough, she lifted her head and spoke in a hoarse voice.
She hadn't mentioned it last time because the marriage was just a means to get back at the Miller family, not worth mentioning. But now, everything was different.
She took out her phone and showed Leslie a picture of Luke, saying, "This is Luke. He's very handsome, isn't he?"
