Chapter 77 Taking the Initiative to Comfort Him
After that week, Luke never showed up at the hospital again.
Luke suddenly became extremely busy, spending more than ten hours a day at work, filling his schedule to the brim.
From Max's observation, it seemed like he had a fight with Elsa.
When it rains, it pours. Poor Max was the fish in this scenario.
Facing Luke's sour face every day, Max was cautious in everything he did, fearing that angering Luke would cost him his year-end bonus.
When the company executives came to report their work, they entered with a clear mind and left drenched in cold sweat.
"Mr. Griffin said that Mrs. Taylor can be discharged this afternoon. But Mrs. Taylor's health is really poor. Should I arrange for some supplements for her?" Max tentatively asked while Luke was resting with his eyes closed after a long meeting.
Max had thought that only Luke was single-minded in relationships, while Elsa was quick-witted and good at coaxing people.
'Who knew they were both equally stubborn?
'If this stalemate continued, the whole company wouldn't be able to take it!' Max thought worriedly.
"If you want to buy it, that's your business. Why are you telling me?" Luke glanced at Max, making him shiver.
"Okay." Max felt very awkward.
'So should I buy it or not?' Max wondered.
Luke closed his eyes again. Max didn't dare to ask more.
On Elsa's side, everything seemed fine for the past few days. It wasn't until she was discharged that she realized something was wrong when Luke didn't show up.
When she was just rescued from drowning, she was emotionally fragile and acted petulantly, throwing a tantrum at Luke. Now, thinking back, it was she who needed this marriage, not Luke.
So it was she who should take the initiative to apologize and make amends, even though she didn't think she had done anything wrong.
Although he pretended not to care for Elsa, Luke surprisingly left work at six o'clock that day.
When he opened the door, Elsa was dining in the dining room on the first floor. After a week of not seeing each other, when Elsa and Luke's eyes met, she first showed her signature smile.
"You're back! I thought you didn't want me anymore because of my tantrum." Elsa's smile carried a hint of flattery as she put down her utensils and ran over to hug Luke.
Elsa had lost a lot of weight. When Luke hugged her, she felt a bit bony.
'During her days in the hospital, she must have gone through a lot of mental struggle. Weighing the pros and cons, she still decided to stay with me. So she decided to be the first to back down after the fight. The Elsa who acted only with reason and not with heart is back,' Luke thought.
Luke felt a pang in his heart, but calmly held Elsa and led her back to the dining table.
Lisa didn't expect Luke to come back so early and had only prepared some light food suitable for a patient like Elsa.
Lisa, who had seen it all in her years, was still baffled by the sweet yet tense atmosphere between Luke and Elsa. In her view, both Luke and Elsa were calm and restrained people, but their interactions were not peaceful and strange.
"Mr. Taylor, what would you like to eat? I'll make it for you," Lisa tentatively asked.
"No need, you can go rest." Luke waved his hand, sending Lisa back to her room.
Luke then fed Elsa the rest of her meal and wiped her mouth.
"I'm sorry. Don't be mad at me. I was wrong." Elsa turned around on Luke's lap to face him, hugging his neck and acting coquettishly.
"What did you do wrong?" Luke felt a heat in his lower abdomen because of Elsa's movements and quickly held her waist.
"I said I wouldn't care about you anymore, but those were just angry words. My friend shouldn't have said those things about Ms. Collins. I'm sorry. If you're worried about Ms. Collins being upset, I can go apologize..."
"Elsa Miller, when did you become so humble?"
Luke felt that it was clearly Margaret who was in the wrong.
'I can't believe that with her personality, Elsa is actually saying such self-deprecating words. What kind of misconception have I given her to make her think Margaret is the most important person to me?' Luke thought.
The pain in his heart spread infinitely, blocking his throat and rushing to his head.
Elsa said, "I know Ms. Collins is very important to you. If you want..."
Luke felt that if he didn't stop her, Elsa would say something even more infuriating, so he lowered his head and kissed her.
