Chapter 435 Remarry
After Elsa finished speaking, there was a moment of silence on the other end.
Just as she was about to hang up, thinking the signal was bad, Luke suddenly spoke quietly.
"Elsa, promise me, if you encounter danger, you must run away."
Elsa was a bit stunned.
"Don't think about risking your life for me, and don't think about protecting me. Elsa, promise me, if you face danger, you need to run fast. Promise me, always put yourself first."
Luke's words were serious and commanding, the most heartfelt thing he had ever said since they met.
It was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples.
Elsa suddenly didn't know how to respond, her heart trembled.
Luke wasn't one for sweet talk; he was cold and reserved. For him to say this meant he truly felt this way.
The last time she was moved by such words was in "Titanic" with the line "You jump, I jump." How lucky she was to meet a man like this and have such a relationship.
Elsa's nose tingled, and for someone who rarely cried, she couldn't hold back her tears.
On the other end, Luke noticed the silence. "Why aren't you saying anything? Are you listening?"
Elsa's throat was choked up, and she couldn't make a sound.
"Sweetheart, baby? Are you there?"
"Yes." She managed to squeeze out a single word despite the lump in her throat.
"What's wrong? Wait for me, I'll be home in half an hour." Luke sensed something was off and sounded a bit anxious.
"It's nothing, Luke. Let's get remarried once I finish reading this book." Elsa said, trying to hold back her sobs.
Luke was her destiny, unavoidable.
Luke paused for a moment, then laughed. "Alright."
"This time, let's announce our wedding to the world, baby." Luke felt like he had finally seen the light after walking through darkness.
He imagined Elsa standing in a beam of light, beckoning him, "Come on, come on."
At that moment, even through the phone, they could feel each other's heartbeat, their hearts seemingly closer than ever.
Meanwhile, things were different for Chloe.
Jonathan returned with the food and saw Chloe's suddenly distant expression. He lost his appetite.
He had used the food as an excuse to cheer Chloe up, worried she hadn't eaten well, and brought her favorite snacks. Now she was talking about reimbursing him!
"How much?" Chloe asked, looking at the price tag on the food box.
Jonathan's face turned cold as he watched Chloe pick up her phone, followed by the WhatsApp payment notification.
Great, just great! He never knew Chloe had so many ways to annoy him!
Jonathan's face grew darker. "Suddenly, I'm not hungry. Ms. Clark, why don't you take it out to feed the dogs?"
He said, standing up and heading for the door.
Chloe watched Jonathan's back and sarcastically remarked, "Sure, but a midnight snack worth over a thousand dollars is a bit extravagant. Mr. King, since you're heading out, why not take it with you?"
Jonathan felt that if he didn't leave now, he wouldn't be able to suppress the urge to pin Chloe down and make her cry.
How had he never noticed Chloe's talent for infuriating him?
Jonathan snorted coldly and slammed the door as he left.
Once Jonathan was gone, Chloe stared at the sofa where he had been sitting, feeling deeply emotional. The electricity had come back just in time; when Jonathan leaned in during the darkness, she almost kissed him in a moment of heat.
She thought she was immune to him, but clearly, that wasn't the case.
'People shouldn't step into the same river twice, and you shouldn't fall for the same old man twice,' Chloe thought, sighing deeply.
Suddenly, a red leather box on the sofa caught her attention.
What had Jonathan left behind?
