Chapter 75 Afraid of Thunder

Luke asked the waiter for a dry towel and handed it to Margaret.

"Dry yourself off," Luke said, leaning back on the sofa and watching Margaret.

"Luke, I was just jealous when I saw Elsa wearing a pink diamond bracelet that day. Can you forgive me?" Margaret was delighted to see Luke still cared about her. She quickly took the towel and put on a pitiful expression.

"We grew up together, and you always gave me the best things. When I saw that you'd given something so precious to Elsa, I was overwhelmed with anger and it made me do the unthinkable," Margaret said, trying to hug Luke again.

Luke subtly avoided her, watching Margaret dry her hair before slowly speaking, "Margaret, you learned to swim as a child, so you're naturally not afraid. But this time, Elsa almost drowned. You should be grateful that she's alive, or you wouldn't have the chance to talk to me so calmly."

Luke's expression was more serious and cold than Margaret had ever seen. She was so scared that she held her breath.

"Luke, I..."

"I admit I had feelings for you when I was younger, but those feelings are long gone. Margaret, I hope you learn from this incident. If you ever harm Elsa again, we won't even be friends."

Margaret felt extremely humiliated by Luke's words. She opened her mouth but ultimately couldn't say anything, so she just stood there crying.

Margaret knew very well the power of tears over a man.

Unfortunately, Luke didn't give Margaret the chance to use them. He dusted off his trench coat and got up to leave.

'I ran all the way in the rain to appear pitiful, but Luke never even asked about it,' Margaret thought.

Compared to Elsa, she had lost completely. Watching Luke's departing figure, Margaret clenched her fists.

When Luke rushed back to the hospital in the rain, the light in Elsa's room was still on, but she was not there.

Luke panicked and was about to ask the medical staff when he noticed a small lump trembling under the blanket amidst the rumbling thunder.

"Did you suffer another nightmare?" Luke was startled and pulled back the blanket, finding Elsa huddled in fear, her face pale like a wounded fawn.

"Are you afraid of thunder?" Luke asked.

Another clap of thunder struck.

Elsa covered her ears and let out a low cry, her face looking even worse. She had never had this problem before, but since developing depression earlier in the year, she seemed to have become much more timid.

"Don't be afraid. I'm here," Luke quickly sat on the bed and pulled the curled-up Elsa into his arms.

"Don't be afraid, baby. I'm here," Luke soothed her like a child, rocking her gently and pressing her head against his chest.

Elsa could fall back asleep faster when she heard Luke's heartbeat in the middle of the night. So he hoped it would calm her now.

Sure enough, Elsa gradually calmed down.

"Good girl, go to sleep," Luke sighed, wiping Elsa's tears with his thumb.

"I was wrong to leave you and go out for drinks on a stormy night. I won't do it again," Luke gently kissed Elsa's wet eyes and the tears on her eyelashes.

Elsa just let Luke hold and kiss her without saying a word.

The rain continued for over two hours.

For those two hours until the rain stopped, Luke didn't change his position of hugging Elsa.

After a long while, Elsa calmed down and released herself from Luke's arms. She turned her back and lay on the bed, then said, "Go to sleep."

"Okay." Luke also lay down fully clothed and reached out to pull Elsa into his arms.
