Chapter 454 Confession Failed

Seeing Jonathan coming over, Chloe grabbed Elsa and tried to leave. Before they could reach the door, Jonathan had already caught up with them.

"Chloe, can I have a word with you?" Jonathan said as he approached.

Chloe felt helpless. What had to come was finally here.

"What is it?"

"It's important. Elsa, could you give us a moment?" Jonathan glanced at Elsa beside Chloe, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"Don't go," Chloe also signaled to Elsa with her eyes.

Elsa was caught in the middle—one was her friend, the other was Jonathan. Who should she listen to?

"Chloe, don't make me kiss you at Dylan's funeral," Jonathan said, leaning close to Chloe's ear when Elsa didn't move.

"You wouldn't dare," Chloe said angrily.

"Want to try?" Jonathan's lips brushed against her ear, sending goosebumps across Chloe's skin.

He was usually so gentle, but today's domineering tone reminded Chloe of that day—when the phone suddenly rang at home and Jonathan didn't have time to hide the look in his eyes.

Full of aggression and possessiveness, completely different from his usual gentle image.

Her heart tightened.

"You go ahead, Elsa," she had to give in.

Elsa breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, okay. You two take your time."

Before they could react, she had already fled.

Jonathan led Chloe away from the funeral. They walked one in front of the other, half a step apart.

"Are you avoiding me?" Jonathan suddenly stopped and asked.

"So what if I am?" Chloe didn't deny it.

She hadn't done anything wrong to him. Avoiding him was for both their sakes—nothing she needed to be ashamed of admitting.

Jonathan let out a low laugh and suddenly moved closer. "If you have doubts, why don't you just ask me? What's the point of quietly complaining to Elsa?"

As his familiar presence closed in, Chloe's body tensed up. He was the only man she'd been with. No matter how much she resisted emotionally, it was useless—her body remembered him.

"Jonathan, aren't you being a bit full of yourself? I was sharing that story with Elsa as something interesting, not complaining to her," Chloe said with a frown, trying hard to ignore that strange feeling.

How had she never noticed this side of Jonathan before? Wasn't he always so respectful and polite, with clear boundaries?

"Don't lie to yourself, Chloe. You love me."

Jonathan was certain of this. He held Chloe's arms and moved closer, bit by bit.

"In the past, I couldn't make up my mind, couldn't take that step. But now I've decided—I want to pursue you and marry you."

Hearing such a straightforward declaration from Jonathan shocked Chloe.

Even now, he thought everything she'd done was just a girl throwing a tantrum. He thought she wouldn't come back to him simply because he hadn't shown enough sincerity!

She felt insulted.

So Chloe forcefully shook off Jonathan's hands and said with a cold laugh, "What, Mr. King, do you think that after saying that, I should cry tears of joy like those girls who get proposed to?"

Chloe's chest heaved violently as she fired off her sarcastic remarks.

She felt that Jonathan was only preparing to use marriage to keep her because he didn't want to lose a suitable sex partner. He was just counting on the fact that she had loved him and thought she would always continue to love him!

But of course, that wasn't what Jonathan meant. He felt he was showing the greatest sincerity a man could offer—this was his confession.

Who knew Chloe would turn on him so quickly, speaking so harshly? He felt choked up and uncomfortable.

The Chloe of the past would often blush and quietly watch him without saying a word. Who knew she'd become so sharp-tongued now?

"Chloe, listen to me. I think I..."

Before "have fallen in love with you" could leave his mouth, Chloe had already turned and walked away.

Messed up again. Jonathan rubbed his forehead.
