Chapter 84 Idle Gossip

Luke wasn't a bad person and he was even better to Elsa than many others. However, since they grew up in different environments, they had different perspectives and ways of handling things.

Whether it was Elsa almost drowning and Luke believing Margaret's malicious accusations, or this time forcing Elsa to accept an apology, it all boiled down to Luke's inherent prejudice against her character.

Luke marrying Elsa wasn't out of love. It was because his first sexual experience was with her and it opened a new world for him. In front of others, Luke was cold, controlling, and aloof. But with Elsa, he experienced a different kind of pleasure and he felt it was refreshing.

'But how long will Luke's sense of novelty last?' Elsa doesn't dare to think about it.

Elsa only knew that marrying Luke was the first step in toppling the Miller family. While she could still use the title 'Mrs. Taylor,' she needed to seize this opportunity.

Elsa rested for just one day and went back to work with Luke the next day as usual.

"Hey, I'm having dinner with Chloe tonight, so don't wait up for me," Elsa said as they parted at the elevator.

Luke nodded, "Alright, what time will you be done? I'll send a driver to pick you up."

"No need, Chloe will drive me home," Elsa said, turning around and heading into the elevator.

"Aren't you planning to take Mrs. Taylor to the Prosperous Abundance Group's banquet?" Max asked, puzzled, in the executive elevator.

Luke had even had the dress delivered to his office yesterday.

"She's been in a bad mood lately. If she wants to hang out with friends, let her do it. The banquet isn't that important," Luke said.

"But the Miller family has also placed a bid on the Prosperous Abundance Group's project. Mrs. Taylor would be very disappointed to miss this opportunity if she knew that."

"I know what she wants. I'll handle it for her."

Recently, Luke had caused Elsa some grievances, so he thought he should do something to make up for it.

Little did he know that Elsa's so-called 'dinner with Chloe' was actually to attend the Prosperous Abundance Group's banquet. The winning bid for this project could bring in millions of dollars, and the Miller Group was a strong contender. Elsa couldn't just stand by and watch the Miller family earn that money.

As soon as Elsa arrived at the company, she sensed something was off. Compared to the polite attitude of her colleagues on her first day, now everyone looked at her strangely.

"Good morning," Elsa greeted a passing colleague, but the colleague walked by as if she hadn't heard her.

Elsa couldn't recall any inappropriate behavior on her first day at the company, nor did she understand the sudden hostility. If she had to guess, there was only one possibility, which was Margaret had said something to others while she was away.

Elsa wasn't surprised that Margaret would do such a thing, but she didn't care much either. Working at Dalton Banks and using this platform to improve herself was the most important thing. With Margaret as her direct supervisor, it was still uncertain whether she could stay after the internship.

Elsa wasn't naive enough to believe that Margaret's insincere apology meant she genuinely wanted to get along well with her.

As a newcomer, Elsa didn't have the chance to work on core tasks yet and was only given minor assignments. For instance, she spent the entire morning at her desk designing the setting for a gemstone ring.

As lunchtime approached, she stretched and headed to the break room for some water.

"Who wouldn't agree? They were hugging in the elevator after work that day," a female voice gossiped from the break room, making Elsa stop in her tracks.

"Manager Collins, a socialite, can't compete with a woman who sells drinks at a club. I heard she stripped and threw herself at Mr. Taylor the first time they met."

"What!"

"Wasn't Mr. Taylor almost engaged to that Karen Miller? They broke up because of her too."

"Manager Collins and Mr. Taylor grew up together, but she got bullied by this woman."

The discussion grew louder. Elsa listened with a blank expression, contemplating whether to walk in and startle them. But someone else beat her to it, pushing the door open and entering.

"Good morning, Mr. Thompson."

"Good morning, Mr. Thompson."
