Chapter 148 Elsa Is Going on a Business Trip
When Luke tried calling again, Elsa had already shut off her phone.
Yeah, he did help Margaret with her suitcase at the airport today. If he'd just been straight about it, things would've been cool. But no, he had to hide that Margaret was there, and now it's all blown up in his face.
Margaret messaged him on Facebook right at that moment..
Margaret: [Luke, I got home safe.]
Luke: [Margaret, has Elsa contacted you?]
Margaret: [Of course not, Ms. Miller doesn't like me. Why would she reach out?]
Margaret: [I just like you, that's all. If anything, it's Ms. Miller who came between us.]
Margaret was airing her grievances, but Luke was completely checked out.
He checked Margaret's Facebook posts. The latest one was from two weeks ago, wishing Joe a happy birthday. Nothing else.
How could it be such a coincidence? He helped Margaret at the airport, and Elsa found out right away.
After turning off her phone, Elsa couldn't sleep.
Lily had said that with her mental state, she shouldn't crash right after something upsetting. She should talk to someone within six hours or write in a journal to vent.
Otherwise, if things piled up, her depression would get worse.
Realizing it was too late to bother Chloe, Elsa went to the medicine cabinet and promptly took her usual antidepressants.
She hadn't taken her meds for a while. Even being schemed against by Dylan didn't trigger her depression, thanks to Luke's care.
While placing the medicine back, a note in the cabinet grabbed her attention: "No matter how tough life gets, tackle it with a positive outlook - Luke"
She didn't know when Luke had put the note there. For someone so cold, he could be so gentle. Elsa held the note, feeling emotional.
Even though she was going to marry Luke, she never thought about spending her life with him. He was just a tool to deal with the Miller family. Even if he were an ugly old man, she would have accepted it.
When did she start falling for him? Probably during moments like these.
She couldn't say for sure.
Maybe it was every time she woke up in the middle of the night and he held her to comfort her.
Maybe it was when Vincent was having surgery, and he stayed outside to give her courage.
Maybe it was when he kept the necklace she designed and promised her a lifetime together. He was cold to others but warm to her, and she fell for him.
Chloe was right. Maybe it had to do with her family background. She was extremely insecure. Luke warmed her bit by bit, giving her a strong sense of belonging, making her willingly give her heart to him.
Once she fell in love, she wouldn't easily stop.
'Luke, you are nothing but a contemptible man.' Elsa cursed him in her heart while writing in her journal. She even childishly drew two circles on the back of the journal.
She wrote, "Luke, considering the last incident with Dylan, this marks the second time you haven't trusted me. I'm giving you five chances. Once I draw five circles, I won't want you anymore!"
Thinking back to when she first got married, she was always ready to let Luke go if he found true love. Now, she couldn't leave him. Elsa couldn't help but scold herself for being so pathetic.
After a sleepless night, Elsa finally turned on her phone in the morning.
Luke: [Margaret did come, but I sent her back to the airport as soon as she arrived. If you don't believe me, I can get the hotel lobby's surveillance footage for you.]
Luke's message popped up, explaining what happened yesterday.
Elsa didn't know how to respond, so she just read it without replying. Her mind was a mess, and she wanted to be alone.
She forced herself to stay awake and went to the office. Sylvie was gathering volunteers for a business trip to Silverwood Falls for a design exhibition, which would last a week.
"May I join?" Elsa asked.
Luke was coming back from a business trip today, and Elsa really didn't want to face him. It would be better to take this opportunity to get away and calm down.
"It depends on Mr. Taylor's decision." After the last incident, Sylvie felt very apologetic towards Elsa and had agreed with Luke to keep him informed about her matters as much as possible.
"Luke agreed. I asked him," Elsa lied without changing her expression.
"Alright, get ready. You'll be in a group with Ruby Bailey." The design exhibition was a great learning opportunity for new designers. Sylvie was very supportive of Elsa going and was naturally pleased to hear that Luke had no objections.
"Okay!" Elsa responded, went home to pack her luggage, and in the afternoon, she and five other colleagues boarded a plane to Silverwood Falls.
