Chapter 242 Do You Hate Him?
Tampering with the brake pads suggests that the mastermind had a backup plan.
Elsa was locked in that garage and barely survived. If she had an accident with the driver halfway, Luke couldn't bear to think about it.
Even without concrete evidence, Luke knew it had something to do with the Miller family. He just didn't know if anyone else was involved besides the Miller family.
"Keep a close watch on the Miller family. It's time to act," Luke's voice was deep and cold, making Max on the other end of the phone shiver.
Elsa stayed in the hospital for a week, where Luke visited her daily. However, he only to ask her attending physician about her recovery. Then he would sit on the bench outside her room all day.
Luke stood like a statue outside the hospital room every day, drawing the attention of passersby.
"Luke is still standing outside!" Chloe exclaimed as she came in to keep Elsa company whenever she had time.
"I know." Elsa shrugged as she said, "If he wants to stay, let him."
"Are you really going to divorce this time?" Chloe asked, feeling both heartbroken and regretful.
"Yes." After a few days, Elsa had calmed down. She was no longer the poor woman who had just lost her child and was mentally shattered.
Whether it was recent psychological therapy or Luke's presence that healed her to some extent, her recovery periods from depressive episodes had become shorter.
Upon witnessing the tragic state of Leslie's death and enduring the compounded grief of losing her child, she thought she would go insane and never recover.
Unexpectedly, she managed to control her overwhelming emotions.
Though sorrowful, she was not defeated.
"It's not entirely Luke's fault. If he had known you were in danger and still left you to see Joe one last time, it would be unforgivable. But he's not a god; he can't foresee everything. After all, you were well when he left." Chloe half-squatted by her bed, saying, "You must think carefully. Leaving him, I'm afraid you'll be too miserable."
Elsa shook her head, explaining, "This incident is just a trigger. When I didn't love Luke, nothing he did could hurt me. After falling in love with him, I lived in constant fear of losing him. Life is already hard enough, Chloe. I don't want to make it harder. Only by truly leaving him can I live without the fear of losing him and find peace."
Elsa's expression was identical to when Leslie died.
Chloe remembered that day a year ago, after Leslie's funeral, Elsa suddenly turned to her and said, "Now, I'm an orphan."
Chloe still clearly remembered the calm despair on her face.
"Do you hate him?" Chloe asked.
Elsa shook her head. She remarked, "Of course not. In fact, even now, I still love him." Elsa was always straightforward with Chloe, despite being a woman of few words.
Luke was so good to her that even someone as cold and indifferent as her couldn't help but fall into his tenderness, unable to extricate herself.
"You don't hate him, but you still want a divorce?" Questioning, Chloe, clueless about relationships, couldn't quite understand Elsa's words.
"You might consider it as my desire to leave him before this marriage encounters major problems, before I start hating Luke, so that we can still have a relatively good image of each other in our hearts," Elsa explained.
"If you fix small problems in time, big problems might not arise." Chloe advised.
"Normal people should do that, manage and repair their relationship with care." Elsa smiled bitterly, saying , "But I'm too tired. I'm tired, Chloe. I want a simple life."
