Chapter 330 Official Announcement with Hailey
In the following days, Luke indeed started going out with Hailey.
The social circle in Maplewood City wasn't very big, so this news reached Elsa in about a week.
Chloe sent Elsa a screenshot of Hailey's Facebook, with a picture of Luke's back.
"Luke was chasing you so hard just a while ago, and now he's officially with Hailey," Chloe said, still nursing her own heartbreak but finding the energy to stand up for Elsa.
Elsa felt a dull pain in her chest and her mind went blank for a long time.
Hailey was cute, charming, and pretty; it's no surprise that Luke would be attracted to her. She just didn't expect them to get together so quickly.
He was calling her "baby" and holding her in his arms in just a week.
If she remembered correctly, he had said he would make her beg to remarry him. It turned out men's words were the least trustworthy.
"We're divorced. He can be with whoever he wants. You, on the other hand, haven't even sorted out your own issues and you're still worrying about me," she said, suppressing her chaotic thoughts and teasing Chloe.
Chloe sighed, "You know, my situation is unsolvable."
How could she compete with a deceased ex-wife? If Whitney were alive, over time, Whitney and Jonathan might have resolved their misunderstandings and gotten back together. Or things might have gotten worse, exhausting their initial affection.
But now, none of that matters. Whitney died in her prime, with endless regrets, becoming Jonathan's lifelong love. Chloe was destined to never surpass or replace her.
"Now, we're both women troubled by love," Elsa said self-deprecatingly.
"To get out of the shadow, it's more reliable to expand your social circle and meet better people," Chloe said, taking a deep breath. "There's a school reunion next Monday. Shall we go together?"
They had attended the same school from elementary to high school and were even in the same class in high school. Elsa had also received an invitation.
"Do you want to go?" Elsa never liked crowds.
"I want to go. My world is too narrow. I need to meet more men, especially the outstanding ones," Chloe said after hesitating for a moment.
Luke immediately understood her intention.
Meeting new, age-appropriate men would help her get out of the emotional whirlpool with Jonathan.
"Alright, I'll go with you."
On Monday evening, as soon as Elsa got off work, Chloe's car was already waiting outside LEO Gems Company.
"You've lost weight," they both said simultaneously as soon as Elsa got into the passenger seat.
After not seeing each other for a few days, they both felt that the other had changed a lot.
Chloe laughed first, "You don't look like a female assassin anymore."
Elsa replied, "You don't look like a nobleman's daughter either, more like an abused illegitimate child."
"Just being alive is good enough, let's not worry about too much," Chloe said with a smile that had a hint of bitterness, which Elsa understood.
They teased each other, but both felt a sense of melancholy.
In life, to not be troubled by love, one would have to be heartless.
Falling into a relationship is easy, but escaping from it is too difficult. They were still alive, still able to attend a party with perfect makeup, and for that, they had to thank fate for its kindness.
"Even though you're so thin, your face is still beautiful. Be content," Elsa said, pinching Chloe's cheek.
"So are you."
Their classmates, unlike Elsa who was a common girl, were mostly wealthy or noble. Naturally, the reunion was held at a high-end hotel where the average cost per person was over $2,000.
They adjusted their moods and walked in, chatting and laughing, but Chloe's voice suddenly lowered.
With the tacit understanding they had developed over the years, Elsa followed her gaze.
Luke was sitting on the hotel's sofa, making a phone call, and the woman clinging to his arm was none other than Hailey.
He seemed to notice Elsa's gaze, quietly put away his phone, and looked back at her.
