Chapter 99 News Hotspot
Margaret was diagnosed with alcohol poisoning. She made a huge scene at the hospital, causing all sorts of trouble.
Luke had stayed up all night with her while she was on an IV drip. By the time she woke up, it was already noon.
"Luke," Margaret mumbled, avoiding his eyes.
"I helped you apply for a day off. The driver will take you home to rest. You can go back to work tomorrow," Luke said, standing up after sitting by her bed all night.
His trench coat was wrinkled from holding her, making him look pretty rough.
"I'm sorry, Luke. I just couldn't handle seeing you with Elsa Miller," Margaret said softly, tears streaming down her face.
In the past, her tears would break his heart. Now, they just felt overdone.
Elsa never cried like Margaret. Margaret knew how to pull at a man's heartstrings, while Elsa always tried to be strong.
Luke remembered the night Elsa cried by the roadside over Vincent's heart condition. His heart tightened.
Elsa rarely showed her vulnerable side.
Thinking of Elsa, Luke checked his watch. She was awake when he left yesterday, and he didn't know if she had gone back to sleep. With Margaret's drama, he had forgotten to instruct the driver to pick Elsa up for work. Stubborn as she was, she probably walked down the hill to catch a cab.
By now, Elsa should be off work and having lunch. She was the type to overthink. Was she eating properly?
"Margaret, Elsa Miller is my wife. You have no right to be jealous," Luke said.
It was better to rip the band-aid off quickly. If he wanted a good relationship with Elsa, he needed to cut off Margaret's hopes directly.
Sure enough, Margaret cried even harder.
Thinking of Elsa, Luke quickly comforted Margaret, handed her over to the medical staff, and drove home. On the way, he called Elsa.
Elsa had barely slept all night and worked intensely all morning. She was exhausted and napping at her desk.
When the phone rang, she had just fallen asleep. Seeing it was Luke, she hung up and turned off her phone.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable."
'Is she throwing a tantrum?' Luke thought.
Listening to the mechanical voice, Luke felt a headache coming on and rubbed his temples.
Given the situation, he had been out all night after leaving home.
'Of course, she's upset that her husband was out taking care of another drunk woman,' Luke thought.
He decided to buy a gift and explain everything to Elsa in the evening to prevent her from overthinking.
After an entire night and half a day of chaos, Luke felt exhausted. After a quick wash at home, he was about to rest when his phone rang.
Did Elsa regret hanging up on him? Luke's heart lifted, and he quickly picked up the phone without checking the caller ID.
"Did you have a good lunch?" he asked.
"Mr. Taylor, it's me." On the other end, Max was so startled by Luke's sudden gentle greeting that he got goosebumps.
"What is it?" The warmth in Luke's voice vanished instantly.
"Well, I saw some entertainment news online about you and Ms. Collins. Do you need emergency PR?" Max asked cautiously.
