Chapter 323 He Likes Weak People
Luke guessed correctly; that afternoon, Hailey blocked Elsa, who was just getting off work, at the entrance of LEO Gems Company.
"Elsa, why did you lie to me?" Hailey demanded aggressively, catching Elsa off guard.
"What did I lie to you about?" Elsa had even forgotten what she had told Hailey.
"You said you were just Luke's former subordinate, not his ex-wife." Hailey remembered everything.
"To be precise, I didn't lie to you; I just withheld part of the truth. And I did work under him; I was a designer at Dalton Banks." Elsa chuckled, thinking Hailey was quite naive to confront her directly.
"Then why didn't you tell me you were his ex-wife? Do you have something against me?" Hailey, who was a bit shorter, looked up at Elsa angrily.
"Of course, I was afraid you'd mind my existence and that it would affect your relationship with Luke." Elsa spoke the truth. Hailey matched well with Luke in both family background and appearance, and Elsa didn't want her presence as an ex-wife to make Hailey uncomfortable.
Although Hailey was young and flamboyant, she was straightforward and honest, much better than someone like Margaret. Elsa didn't dislike her; she just felt that she and Luke were not meant to be.
"I see." Hailey was relieved but then asked, "You don't want to get back together with Luke, do you?"
"No, I don't." Elsa quickly assured her, patting her chest.
"That's good. I'm planning to pursue Luke. He's so handsome; I suddenly feel like marrying him wouldn't be a loss." Hailey said happily.
She was determined to win Luke over. From childhood to now, no one had ever rejected her first. She couldn't stand the thought of Luke not liking her.
Elsa raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised. So they were only at this stage? She had thought they were already together.
"Don't be too direct when you pursue him. Luke doesn't like straightforward women; he prefers," Elsa couldn't help but offer some advice, thinking of Margaret and choosing her words carefully, "women who are a bit more gentle."
"But he does like girls like you." Seeing Hailey's disappointed look, Elsa quickly added.
In her heart, Elsa marveled at her own generosity. Even at this moment, she was giving Hailey advice.
Of course, it wasn't long before this reached Luke's ears.
He doesn't like straightforward and honest women? Wasn't Elsa straightforward enough back then?
Elsa always had a way of making his chest ache with anger!
Whenever he thought of Elsa, Luke just wanted to pin her down on the bed and punish her severely.
After this incident, they didn't see each other for another couple of weeks. Maplewood City was so big that it wasn't easy to run into someone, but it was much easier to avoid them.
Luke had been on a business trip for a while, and Elsa was busy with both her main job and side projects.
Time quickly flew to September. To boost sales for the upcoming Heart Whisper Day, Maplewood City organized a three-day jewelry exhibition.
The exhibition was grand, and a jewelry company of LEO Gems' caliber naturally had to attend.
As Leo's assistant, Elsa had many tasks to handle, making her the busiest person during those three days.
The three-day exhibition sold as much as a month's worth of sales, which was quite gratifying. Elsa was happy for Leo but just wanted to go home and sleep; she was exhausted.
As usual, there was a celebration party hosted by the organizers in the evening.
She wasn't interested, didn't even change her clothes, and shrank into a corner with a glass of vodka to relax.
Luke noticed Elsa immediately.
It wasn't that he was looking for her, but among the girls in evening gowns, Elsa in her fuchsia suit stood out.
She must have come straight from the venue. Her long hair was casually tied up, her makeup had faded almost completely, and she looked tired but still stunning.
She was picking at a piece of meat with little interest, holding a small glass in her other hand, and downed it in one gulp.
You can't drink vodka straight!
Luke frowned and was about to stop her when he saw her pour another glass and down it again.
After two glasses of vodka, Elsa's face turned red. She leaned lazily against the back of her chair, as if everything around her had nothing to do with her.
Luke looked elsewhere and saw that even Leo, usually so aloof, was socializing. He must have been worried about her and didn't want her to get too tired.
He wanted to go over, but then saw Elsa stand up first.
She tried to avoid the noisy crowd and headed towards the back door.
Sometimes Elsa was exceptionally smart, and other times she was incredibly careless. With her looks, how could she avoid attention?
As she walked out, someone immediately followed her.
