Chapter 206 Anger
On the way back, Elsa was so mad her heart hurt.
Jasmine setting her up wasn't the worst part. What really got to her was Luke's attitude; he actually tested her like that!
And Luke was just as frustrated.
He stormed into Karida's office and sat there with a scowl for most of the afternoon.
"This isn't Elsa's fault," Karida said after hearing the whole story. "If it were Margaret who had an accident, wouldn't you rush to the hospital?"
"But her worry for him got to me," Luke grumbled.
"Elsa has every right to be mad. You tested her for no reason. You're supposed to be above that."
Luke's glare was so intense that Karida immediately regretted speaking up, her voice trailing off.
Luke knew his actions were undignified, but he didn't mean to test Elsa; he was just tricked by Jasmine.
He knew Elsa would come, but seeing her so worried about Jonny made him insanely jealous.
And what was that look she gave him? Was she disappointed?
Luke was fuming, making it impossible for Karida to get any work done.
"So what now? Are you thinking about divorce?" Karida asked after work, seeing Luke still brooding.
"Of course not, why would I want a divorce?" Luke snapped, sensitive to the word.
"If you don't want a divorce, why are you testing Elsa's loyalty?" Karida couldn't understand Luke's behavior.
Luke didn't want to admit he was played by Jasmine, so he left with a dark expression and went home.
When he got home, Elsa was having dinner in the dining room. She didn't even look up when Luke walked in.
Luke knew he had gone too far today. But instead of apologizing, he sat down next to Elsa.
"Mr. Taylor, have you eaten?" Lisa asked quickly. When he said no, she hurried to set up dinner for him.
"About today..." Luke started awkwardly, seeing Elsa eating without acknowledging him.
Just then, Elsa's phone rang, cutting him off.
She didn't even glance at him, answering the call.
"Jonny."
After cooling down from her hospital visit, Elsa remembered to call Jonny and fill him in.
Jonny had been busy and saw her message an hour later, calling her back.
Luke felt a nerve twitch in the back of his head.
"It's not your fault. You have nothing to apologize for," Elsa said gently, whether she meant to or not.
Jonny must have heard about the incident and was apologizing to Elsa.
Luke frowned, not liking Elsa's tone.
"It's all my fault. If I hadn't told her I liked you, Jasmine wouldn't have given you a hard time. Is Luke mad at you?"
Elsa accidentally hit the speakerphone, and Jonny's words came out loud and clear.
She glanced at Luke and calmly switched back to the earpiece.
"Jonny, I'm fine," she said softly. "I'm going to eat now, talk to you later."
Jonny said something else, and Elsa just listened quietly, responding occasionally. They talked for a full five minutes before hanging up.
"Elsa, what's going on here?" Luke was furious.
