Chapter 434 Immobilization Spell Failure

Chloe was taken aback by the intense, possessive look in Jonathan's eyes.

Jonathan was usually gentle and reserved, rarely showing his emotions. She had never seen such a raw expression on his face before.

Chloe nervously pressed her lips together, staying silent.

"Inviting someone to dinner and not letting them eat their fill, that's pretty mean of you," Jonathan said, his previous expression quickly replaced by his usual gentle demeanor. He set his cigarette aside and leaned in closer to Chloe.

"You were the one who left halfway to play hero," Chloe retorted.

Jonathan was so close now that she could feel his breath. Chloe felt a bit lightheaded.

"What hero? Giselle was in trouble, and I couldn't just ignore it. To me, she's just a kid," Jonathan explained patiently.

"A kid? I'm younger than Giselle. Why don't you treat me like a kid?" Chloe mocked.

Chloe didn't want to tell Jonathan that Giselle had staged the whole scene just to ruin their dinner. She was tired of getting entangled in these games. Whatever Giselle did to win him over was none of her concern anymore.

"Are you jealous?" Jonathan asked, not annoyed by her words but rather smiling more warmly.

He leaned in even closer, clearly wanting to kiss her.

Earlier, when he had coaxed her into smoking, it was a way to share an indirect kiss. But now, having tasted the filter she had used, he found it wasn't enough.

Jonathan felt like a wolf, wanting to devour the innocent Little Red Riding Hood in front of him.

"No," Chloe whispered, her face turning red and her knees going weak from his proximity.

Her rational mind told her to push him away and politely show him out. But now, she felt paralyzed, unable to move.

The tension reached its peak when the doorbell rang.

"Hello, Tranquil Haven Hotel, room service."

The spell was broken.

"I'll get the door," Chloe said, pushing Jonathan away and rushing to the door.

On the way, she bumped into the table leg and stumbled.

Jonathan reached out to steady her, his eyes dark and intense. "I'll get it."

When he returned with the food, Chloe had already composed herself, her earlier confusion gone. She smiled politely, "I'm sorry for not letting you eat your fill, Mr. King. Please enjoy the meal, it's on me."

Jonathan felt a surge of frustration, his face falling.

Great, now Chloe was playing hard to get!

Meanwhile, Elsa had gone to Luke's place after parting ways with Chloe.

Luke was out at a business meeting and hadn't returned yet. After some thought, Elsa decided to call him.

"I ran into..."

"Karen," she was about to say.

"I'm already looking into it," Luke interrupted.

Elsa felt a warmth in her heart, knowing he was always aware of her situation.

"I suspect everything that happened on the day of the family reunion is connected to Karen," she continued.

"The explosives were meant for me, not her," Luke revealed, having just discovered this.

Max had hired some underworld contacts to investigate. It turned out that Sean's brother, Jace Butler, had returned and somehow taken over as the leader of the largest gang in Maplewood City.

Last year, Sean had managed to get his hands on firearms, indicating he had connections in the underworld. Now, with someone placing explosives under Luke's car, the methods were eerily similar. He should have seen it coming.

"Who is it?" Elsa asked, shocked by Luke's revelation.

"It's a long story, but you need to be careful. Don't get caught up in this because of me."

"What are you talking about?" Elsa said, displeased. "If something happens, you would go to great lengths for me. Do you think I would just abandon you?"
