Chapter 342 Luke's Myocarditis
Elsa was saved by a passing truck.
When Luke was holding her in despair on the prairie, a feed factory truck passed by and took them to the hospital.
Elsa nearly died from a drug allergy and struggled back from the brink of death after a long rescue. As for Luke, when he heard that Elsa was out of danger, his tense nerves finally relaxed, and he collapsed to the ground.
He had myocarditis, caused by excessive fatigue and worry.
"Riding a horse for over an hour and running more than 60 miles, Luke is more of a man than any prairie man," a designer remarked to Elsa.
"Wasn't he here on vacation with his girlfriend? He sure is considerate to you, his ex-wife."
Elsa said nothing, her mind filled with the image of Luke holding her and galloping on horseback. Although she was in a daze and on the brink of death at that time, she could hear his frantic heartbeat and sense his speed.
Later, she remembered the words he said while holding her in the prairie, his chaotic breathing, and his slightly trembling hands.
The allergic symptoms came and went quickly. After targeted treatment, Elsa's body gradually recovered, and she no longer felt the unbearable itchiness all over her body.
She insisted on seeing Luke, and the others couldn't stop her, so they let her go to the next ward.
Luke was sleeping, breathing oxygen, lying on the hospital bed with a pale face, and receiving an IV drip in his arm.
Karida, Terry, and Hailey were with him. Hailey's eyes were red, indicating she had been crying.
"Elsa, how are you?" Karida asked when she saw Elsa come in.
"I'm fine." Elsa walked dazedly towards Luke and squatted by the bed, looking at his haggard face.
He was like this because of her.
"Luke, does it hurt?" she asked in a voice almost only she could hear, as if afraid of startling the person in front of her.
No one responded to her; Luke was still asleep.
"Elsa, do you think Luke saved you because he still has feelings for you?" Behind her was Hailey's mocking voice.
Elsa turned to look at her, but ultimately pursed her lips and said nothing.
Of course, Luke had feelings for her; she could feel it. But Hailey was his current girlfriend, and that was an undeniable fact.
"Luke is just kind. Even if it wasn't you, he would have saved someone else. I know you want to remarry him, following him to the prairie and pretending to be sick to get his attention. Elsa, what you're doing is too much."
No one knew better than the person who wronged you how wronged you are.
After Hailey's words, not only Elsa but also Karida and Terry were stunned.
Wasn't it Luke who persistently followed her to the prairie? Pretending to be sick, she almost died, and Hailey said she was pretending?
Elsa frowned at the sharp words but didn't want to stoop to Hailey's level.
Karida and Terry, who knew the inside story, could only smile bitterly and shake their heads.
When Luke decided to come to the prairie that day, the two of them also postponed important matters to come along, fearing that Hailey and Elsa would cause too much drama for Luke to handle alone.
If anyone was over the line, it was Ian.
Knowing that Luke didn't like Hailey, he still forced her on him. Was Ian afraid no one would want Hailey?
"Elsa, get out!" Hailey saw Elsa's silence as an admission of guilt and became even more domineering.
"Ms. Phillips, Luke fell ill because of me. I need to take care of him," Elsa said patiently, trying to reason with Hailey.
"I'm his girlfriend. It's not your place to take care of Luke. The best care you can give him is to stay away!" Hailey retorted aggressively.
Elsa sighed, "Ms. Phillips, do you have to make this so ugly?"
"For someone like you, there's no such thing as ugly or not. Get out; I won't allow you to stay here!"
Hailey still remembered how Elsa had tricked her with a smoke detector disguised as a camera and was unceremonious in driving her away.
"What if I don't leave?" Elsa was also getting angry.
"If you don't leave, you're shameless, clinging to someone else's boyfriend. You just want to be a homewrecker!" Hailey's voice grew louder.
"Ms. Phillips, keep your voice down. Luke is still resting!" Karida finally couldn't help but intervene.
"Elsa, please don't disturb Luke's rest!" Hailey took it a step further, scolding Elsa.
Even someone like Elsa, who didn't care about others' opinions, felt embarrassed.
"Take good care of him," she said, taking a deep breath, and told Karida and Terry before turning and leaving the ward.
