Chapter 219 Lost in Thought

Brian stormed out, fuming.

Elsa's plan had flopped, and she just sat there, frozen.

The restaurant had given her a jug of their homemade wine. Feeling down, she drank like there was no tomorrow.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., she kept drinking, and by the time she finished the jug, she was totally wasted.

"Why is everything so damn hard?" Elsa mumbled.

She slumped over the table, feeling completely drained.

"You still here?" Brian's voice cut through her blurry haze.

"Brian? Why'd you come back?" Elsa, drunk and out of it, forgot to be polite and used his first name.

Brian's face was a blank slate. "I said I'd treat, so I came back to pay the bill."

Elsa didn't say a word, just watched him walk to the front desk, swipe his card, and then come back to look at her.

"You couldn't convince me. What's your next move, gonna ask Mr. Taylor for help?" Brian asked.

He'd already figured out who she was; she was Luke's wife.

Elsa, slow and tipsy, steadied herself and after a moment said, "It's too soon to tell. Winning Luke's heart was a lot tougher than convincing you, but I still managed to do it."

Brian raised an eyebrow but kept quiet.

"You should know, I did a lot to marry into the Taylor family. Besides Luke, I don't owe anyone anything, and I don't care what people think." Elsa said.

Her words were sharp, and Brian got the message.

"Do you think I care, Mrs. Taylor?" Brian wasn't as mad as before.

"From your reaction earlier, you do care." Elsa said.

"Your words don't mean anything to me," Brian said, "I suggest you give up."

After paying the bill, Brian left Elsa alone again.

To Elsa, Brian coming back meant there was still a chance to negotiate.

That night, back at the hotel, Elsa took a hot shower, trying to sober up.

She sat on the bed, lost in thought, suddenly realizing she hadn't contacted Luke in the four days she'd been away.

Back when things were good between them, Luke would've found any excuse to video call her.

When he was on business trips, he'd call her, asking about her day or just to say "Goodnight."

How did they end up like this? Elsa felt a sharp pain in her heart and decided to video call Luke.

The call rang and rang until it disconnected with no answer.

'Forget it, even if he answered, I wouldn't know what to say.' Elsa thought sadly.

It wasn't Luke's fault; she was just too greedy, always wanting more. She had forced him to marry her and ended up falling for him herself. She shouldn't blame him for not valuing her feelings.

With these thoughts swirling, Elsa couldn't sleep, her eyes wide open until dawn.

When Elsa made the video call, Luke was on a plane. He saw her message after landing.

The Price family had sent someone to pick him up. Looking at his phone, Luke smiled for the first time in days.

"What did Elsa say?" Karida asked, noticing the look on Luke's face.

"She video called me, but I was on the plane and missed it." Luke said, thinking Elsa finally reached out after four days.

Luke's tone softened in the quiet night.

"Aren't you gonna call her back?" Karida asked.

"She has trouble sleeping. If I wake her, she'll be up all night." Luke tried to hide his smile and shook his head.

But the tenderness in his voice made Karida shiver. "Seriously, dude, you're totally head over heels for her," he teased.
