Chapter 18 I'm Your Daddy
In the Miller house, Karen tearfully accused Elsa of her "crimes" to David, while Phyllis, frustrated, chimed in, "This is the despicable daughter Leslie raised! She even stole her sister's fiancé! David, aren't you going to do anything? Now, if the Taylor family really calls off the engagement, Karen and the Miller family's future is over!"
Initially, Leslie was pregnant and unable to care for Elsa, so Phyllis resorted to extreme measures to force her to take away 5-year-old Elsa so that her daughter could marry into the Taylor family. Little did she know that besides the divorce papers, Rhys also gave Elsa a personal necklace as a token of affection. It was because of this token that she had been entangled with Leslie all these years.
"I told you before that you should pressure Leslie all the time. Since the token was in Lesile’s possession, marrying Elsa into the Taylor family was the same because they were all my daughters. Now, with Leslie gone, and Elsa only harbors hatred towards the Miller family."
David paced anxiously back and forth. Over the years, the Miller family had been on a downward spiral, and the engagement with the Taylor family had become the Miller family's "last straw." If this fell through, the meager investment from the Taylor family wouldn't sustain them for long.
"Is there no other way? How about talking to Luck again? And his mother likes you, right? Go find her!" David instructed. "Give me Elsa's number. I'll talk to her!"
He knew Phyllis and Karen had been making life difficult for Leslie and Elsa all these years, all for the sake of the Miller family. So David had pretended not to know.
As a father, he didn't even have Elsa's contact information.
"Hello, who is this?" Elsa's voice came through the receiver.
"Elsa, it's your dad," David said. Even though he couldn't see her on the other end, he quickly put on a smile and bent slightly.
"I'm your grandpa."
Elsa cursed and hung up bluntly.
When David tried calling again, the number had been blocked.
"Who was it?"
Chloe and Elsa were at a café. After knowing each other for so many years, it was the first time Chloe heard Elsa curse.
"David," Elsa said. She hadn't heard that voice in 17 years, but she could never forget it.
"How did he get your number?" Chloe seemed to have heard something dirty, with her brows furrowing in disgust.
"He's probably seeking justice for Karen."
Karen caught her and Luke in the act, so naturally, she would go home to report it. The whole Miller family must be in turmoil right now.
"Disgraceful," Chloe said with disdain.
Looking into Elsa's deep eyes, she felt she shouldn't continue. "Let's not talk about the bad guys. Come on, Elsa. Let's have a drink to celebrate your achievement."
"Yes, tonight we won't return sober." Elsa went to get a bottle of wine.
She had been feeling too suppressed lately. She really needed to relax.
Elsa and Chloe drank from evening till dawn. When Luke arrived, the two women were embracing each other, swaying as they walked out.
They were attractive, but their hair was disheveled, and their makeup smudged. Elsa, who had been wearing an artistic white dress during the day, was now in a simple black camisole only. She even carried her high heels in her hand, barefoot on the ground.
It was quite unsightly.
Luke frowned, lifted Elsa off the ground, and instructed the driver to "Get a car to take Chloe home."
Before Chloe could react, he had already put Elsa in his car and driven off.
