Chapter 270 Regaining Freedom
Elsa only stayed in the detention center for seven days.
There was no interrogation and prosecution. On the seventh day, someone politely escorted her out as if nothing had happened.
The matter ended with David being sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined three times the amount.
Mark, due to the lesser severity of his crime and his unawareness, was only given a one-year probation. If he didn't commit any crimes within a year, the matter would be considered resolved.
Elsa knew that the swift resolution of the case must have involved Luke's intervention.
She owed him too much, which was still impossible to repay.
As Elsa walked out of the detention center, Chloe was already waiting outside.
Chloe made quite an entrance, with a fleet of luxury cars of various sizes, banners, and a long line of vehicles parked along the road.
Seeing Elsa come out, Chloe walked over with big strides. Elsa was amused by her ostentatious display, thinking it was over the top.
"You have no idea how worried I was about you." Chloe reached out to hug her, and the tears she had held back for days finally flowed.
Elsa was moved by Chloe's tears. She hugged her back, and gently wiped her tears away. "I'm perfectly fine. Besides, the Miller family is dealt with, and there won't be any more dangerous situations for me."
This reminded Chloe of something. She slowly stopped crying, took Elsa's hand, and got into the car.
"Come on, I have a surprise for you."
Without giving Elsa a chance to refuse, Chloe started the car and led the convoy from the detention center to the main road.
As the car moved forward, Elsa began to understand.
David had been in prison for only a month, and now the Miller family Mansion was already up for pre-auction by the court.
"The Miller family's money isn't enough to cover the fines. All of David's properties have been confiscated by the government. As the largest shareholder of the Miller family, Karen was lucky to escape early; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to take a train or plane now."
Chloe parked in an open space and said with disdain, "The Miller family has finally received their punishment for their many crimes."
Today was the pre-auction exhibition. Soon, the open space was filled with cars.
Court officials removed the seals, and representatives from various auction houses entered one after another.
Chloe pulled Elsa along, entering through the main gate.
The mansion's state of decay was astonishing. Weeds had grown, mold spots appeared on the walls, and spider webs hung from several trees.
It wasn't even the rainy season yet, but gray wall paint fell and landed on the back of Elsa's hand.
She looked around in confusion.
"It's amazing, isn't it? Some people go on vacation for two months and come back to find their home unchanged. But some houses seem to be taken over by animals that know the owner won't return." Chloe explained with a smile.
"David deserves his fate." Elsa sneered.
They walked into the Miller family’s main hall.
The Miller family's belongings were laid out in the hall, being sorted, appraised, and authorized by various auction houses.
"Do you want anything? I can have them set something aside for you to show Leslie."
Elsa shook her head. "No, I find it dirty."
She said this but still raised her phone to take a panoramic photo.
'Leslie, I won.' Elsa said in her heart, unable to shed any more tears.
As Elsa walked out of the detention center, Luke's car had already arrived.
He had long moved past the emotional turmoil of his divorce, watching from a distance as Elsa was picked up by Chloe's luxury convoy.
They had met in the summer. Now, another summer had come.
In just a year, they had gone through so many significant events, which felt like a lifetime.
With her great revenge achieved, she would probably go abroad to study next.
Watching Elsa's departing figure, Luke's eyes were deep and contemplative.
"Did you contact him?" he asked.
