Chapter 225 Jasmine's Provocation
Debbie had a ton of rules, but deep down, she wasn't a bad person. After hearing about Leslie's kindness to Rhys, learning about the engagement's backstory, and seeing Rhys's necklace, she finally warmed up to the marriage.
She used to be super biased and couldn't see Elsa objectively. But after watching her for half the night, she started to have a good impression of her.
When Debbie was giving Elsa a hard time, Elsa didn't grovel. And now that Debbie was being nicer, Elsa wasn't getting all high and mighty.
Elsa had this cool, calm vibe—confident but not arrogant, humble but not meek. If you ignored her family background, she truly carried herself with a noble grace.
Both Elsa and Debbie respond better to kindness than force. Debbie had been glaring at Elsa for half a year, and Elsa had been holding her ground. Now, at this reunion, Elsa decided to change her attitude, making everyone happy.
Debbie felt a warmth when Elsa called her 'Mom', but she just said casually, "You're too thin, eat more. Didn't Luke say he wanted kids? Grab some health supplements from the storeroom before you leave."
Seeing Elsa and Debbie getting along for once, Luke's eyes lit up with joy.
Elsa thanked her properly.
Everyone knew Debbie didn't like Elsa, so the meal was pretty tense. But now, seeing them get along, the atmosphere at the table got a lot more lively.
Only Jasmine, from a distance, shot a look of disdain at Elsa.
Ever since Jasmine framed Elsa, Elsa had been pretty disgusted with her, so she shot back a look of loathing.
After dinner, while Luke was chatting with Debbie and the elders in the hall, Elsa went for a walk in the yard to help with digestion. She hadn't gone far when Jasmine blocked her path.
"Elsa, you are so cunning, trying to win Debbie over," Jasmine snapped, her makeup more subdued than usual, but her words still harsh.
"Jasmine, what's your problem with me getting along with Debbie? Do you not like Jonny but have a thing for Luke?" Elsa shot back.
"You're talking nonsense!" Jasmine snapped.
"Nonsense? Ms. Taylor, if you like Jonny and see me as a rival, you should be happy I'm getting married, not trying to prove there's something between Jonny and me, ruining my marriage."
"What good does it do you for Luke to misunderstand me and Jonny? It'll just make Jonny hate you more."
People with sharp minds usually hadsharp tongues, too. Jasmine had lost big time last time, and now she was even more furious.
"You told Jonny? You bitch!" Jasmine swung a slap, but Elsa quickly caught her wrist.
"Why wouldn't I tell him? Ms. Taylor, you dare to do it but not admit it. Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed?" Arguing with Jasmine was beneath Elsa's intelligence. They were both from the Taylor family, yet Jasmine, despite being a pretty young girl, acted like a brute, lacking even a hint of Luke's virtues.
"Elsa, believe me, as long as I'm here, you'll never have a good time in the Taylor family!" Jasmine suddenly leaned close to Elsa's ear and hissed.
"I'm so scared," Elsa mocked. "Last time, it was here that Margaret jumped into the lake to frame me. If you really can't stand it, why don't you try it too?"
"You bitch!" Jasmine was enraged by Elsa's sarcastic tone and lunged at her.
Elsa couldn't dodge in time and was about to get hurt when suddenly Luke strode over and grabbed Jasmine by the collar.
"Jasmine, stay away from Elsa, or I'll have someone send you back abroad." His expression was stern, the first time he had been so angry with Jasmine.
Jasmine had been the little princess of the Taylor family since childhood, and it was the first time Luke had been so harsh with her.
"You're all taking Elsa's side! Luke, I can't believe you're mean to me because of her!" With those words, she ran out crying.
Watching Jasmine's back, Luke's face was expressionless.
Elsa felt speechless. How innocent she was, to be targeted by this lunatic Jasmine!
