Chapter 350 Chloe and Oliver
Elsa was dealing with one problem after another, and so was Chloe.
After that alumni reunion, she and Oliver exchanged contact information and grew close in a short period of time.
Chloe, heartbroken from Jonathan, desperately needed someone new to heal, and Oliver was the one she chose.
They went on a few dates, just dinner and movies, without any substantial progress.
Oliver had pursued her in high school for years without success, so now he naturally didn't dare to make any rash moves. But Chloe could tell that he still liked her.
That evening, they had a steak dinner, and Oliver brought a large bouquet of blue roses.
After dinner, it was already night. The autumn wind was chilly as Chloe walked out holding the flowers.
"Your shoelace is untied," Oliver called out to her, squatting down to tie her loose shoelace.
This was the kind of love she should be experiencing, Chloe thought, looking at the top of Oliver's head. Finding a boy with a similar background and age as a boyfriend.
But she had fallen in love with a man 20 years older than her.
What did Oliver lack compared to Jonathan? Chloe thought for a long time but couldn't figure it out.
Maybe he didn't have Jonathan's financial power or social status. But he was only 22, came from a good family, and had great potential. And she had money herself, so why would she care about that?
Oliver finished tying one shoe and then untied and retied the other. Such a meticulous boy, with eyes full of her, yet she felt nothing for him.
Chloe smiled bitterly. As she inadvertently looked up, she saw Jonathan getting out of a car across the street.
Her heart started pounding so loudly it was deafening.
Jonathan hadn't seen Chloe for a long time and was stunned to see her from afar.
She seemed much thinner than before.
Was she dating someone?
The boy was squatting down, tying her shoelace with infinite affection. For some reason, Jonathan felt a dull ache in his chest.
Chloe, holding a huge bouquet of blue roses, was looking at him from afar. They stared at each other silently across the street.
"Let's go," Oliver said, standing up after tying her shoelace.
Chloe didn't move.
Oliver followed her gaze. "Who is he?"
"A friend," Chloe said softly, taking Oliver's arm. "Let's go."
It was the first time she had been so proactive. Oliver was stunned, and so was Jonathan, who nodded and left first.
Logically, Chloe taking Oliver's arm should have brought them closer. But things didn't go as expected. She regretted it that very night.
Not being with someone she truly liked and having to date someone she didn't like as much were the two most painful things in Chloe's otherwise dull life.
After tossing and turning all night, she decided not to be with Oliver. It wouldn't be fair to either of them.
Chloe had been in contact with Oliver for so long that she couldn't just cut him off. So she found an excuse to go on a business trip and hid abroad.
Elsa knew nothing about this.
They were both trapped by their feelings, unable to extricate themselves.
Luke had to get an IV drip every morning, which finished by lunchtime. He would then go to Elsa's room to feed her personally.
Elsa asked, "Where's Hailey?"
"She went home," Luke said matter-of-factly, blowing on the hot soup in the bowl.
"Spending the morning with your girlfriend and the afternoon with your ex-wife, you really are a master of time management." Elsa couldn't help but tease.
"There's nothing between us," Luke said without a hint of guilt.
Hailey was just his girlfriend in name, and soon she wouldn't even be that.
"What do you mean there's nothing? You two are a couple." Elsa didn't want to argue with Luke, feeling it made her seem like she couldn't let go of him. But she couldn't help it when he said that.
"There's really nothing. What we have is what a couple should be like." Luke wiped the soup stain from Elsa's lips with his thumb and leaned in for a kiss.
