Chapter 401 Visit (Part One)
Lara was elderly, but her eyesight was still sharp. The front hall door was open, and she watched Luke as he walked through the garden towards the house.
Tall and elegant, with an air of sophistication, even those who didn't know him couldn't help but silently admire his demeanor.
Moreover, he was the CEO of the Taylor Group, the richest man in Maplewood City, and the youngest person in the top 10 of the Forbes list. Any one of these titles was enough to make people gasp.
But now, his identity was simply that of her granddaughter's ex-husband.
As Luke got closer, Lara noticed that he had a face that could rival any current male celebrity, making her even more satisfied.
Luke, upon seeing Lara, couldn't help but silently admire her.
No wonder Elsa was so extraordinarily beautiful; her mother and grandmother were both stunning.
The three women shared identical features. Compared to Leslie's gentle and dignified look, Elsa's aloofness seemed to be inherited from Lara.
It was said that Lara was 70 years old, but the woman before him was slim and straight, wearing a pullover sweater and jeans in the front hall. From her figure to her posture and even her attire, she looked incredibly youthful.
If it weren't for the wrinkles on her face, Luke would have suspected that her silver hair was dyed.
"Ms. Crawford," Luke greeted with a slight bow.
Calling her "Mrs. King" felt too awkward to say.
Lara didn't look like an elderly woman; she looked more like a young girl with makeup to appear older.
"What kind of address is that?" Lara frowned. "If you don't want to call me 'Grandma' like Elsa does, fine, but don't be so formal."
With one sentence, Lara instantly eased Luke's initial nervousness.
He couldn't help but smile. "It's just that you don't seem that old, 'Mrs. King' feels a bit hard to say."
"Smooth talker," Lara shot him a glance. "Is this how you tricked Elsa?"
Most people said Luke was cold and hard to approach, but Lara was the first to think he was charming.
Luke wasn't annoyed by her teasing and continued to smile.
"Elsa's blood is three degrees colder than the average woman's; she's not that easy to trick."
Lara was amused by Luke's exaggerated description, laughing until tears came to her eyes. She then invited Luke to sit and asked Giselle to pour him some coffee.
Giselle had investigated Elsa and naturally knew about Luke, her ex-husband.
From what she had seen on Facebook and various articles, their relationship seemed strained. So why was Luke visiting after Elsa's reunion with her family?
From Luke's words, it didn't sound like they were on bad terms.
"Mr. Taylor, please enjoy your coffee," Giselle said softly, her eyes slightly downcast, showing a pitiful expression.
Being protective of the weak was a hallmark of a good man, and Giselle knew few could resist her look, often giving her a second glance.
But Luke was immune, nodding slightly in thanks, his attention never wavering from Lara.
Did Luke think she was just a servant? Giselle was inwardly annoyed but didn't show it.
"A small gift, please accept it, Grandma," Luke said, changing his address with Lara's permission, and handed over the gift he brought.
When the ornate box was opened, Lara was momentarily dazzled.
It was a gem the size of a pigeon egg, a rare pale gold color with a natural, radiant luster.
"This is something from the palace," Lara said, unable to take her eyes off it, speaking with certainty.
