Chapter 346 Saving Debbie

"Of course." Elsa said, arranging to meet Debbie at a café.

Smart as she was, Elsa knew Debbie's intention was nothing more than to ask her to keep her distance from Luke, to avoid entangling with each other after the divorce.

Elsa had the same thought since the divorce, although she had a brief moment of hesitation yesterday, she was now more determined than ever.

Since they shared the same thought, it was good to clarify things with Debbie.

Debbie maintained her usual style when going out, with a driver and two accompanying servants as the basic setup.

Elsa watched her get out of the stretch Lincoln and felt that coming to a café where the average cost was $10 per person was really beneath her.

Debbie had the driver park the car in the lot across the street and followed Elsa into the café.

"Ms. Miller, there were some misunderstandings in the past, and I did many things that made things difficult for you. I apologize for that." Debbie didn't touch the coffee in front of her and showed a rare kind side to Elsa.

"I haven't held onto the past." Elsa smiled, waiting for her to continue.

Debbie felt a bit uncomfortable with her smile and coughed awkwardly. "Now that you and Luke are divorced, I'm no longer your elder. But as a mother who loves her son, I want to ask you for a favor."

Sure enough, she was getting to the point.

"Go ahead."

"Ms. Miller, Luke is someone who, once he sets his mind on someone, it's hard to change. I know I should manage him instead of persuading you, and I ask for your understanding. Could you please keep your distance from Luke in the future, and preferably not see him again?"

Debbie's tone carried a bit of politeness, a bit of pleading, and even a touch of humility. Elsa felt even more like laughing.

She still remembered Debbie's fierce look when she slapped her, and later, when Debbie accepted her as a daughter-in-law, she treated her well for a while. Now, Debbie was actually lowering herself to ask her.

She remained silent.

"Ms. Miller, since you and Luke are no longer possible, and you know Hailey's status, if Luke keeps holding onto you and neglects Hailey, it will surely affect his future."

Seeing Elsa keep smiling, Debbie couldn't help but raise her voice.

Elsa had thought of this too. If Luke kept associating with her and Ian found out, the consequences would be severe.

Her eyes darkened, but she said, "Bring it out."

"What?" Debbie was puzzled.

"In TV dramas, when a wealthy woman asks a poor girl to leave her son, doesn't she usually give a card and say, 'Here's two million dollars, take it and leave my son'?"

Elsa's smile deepened, with a hint of mockery in her eyes.

For a moment, Debbie felt even more uncomfortable.

She wouldn't believe herself if she said she didn't look down on girls from poor families. If she didn't, why did she always think Elsa wasn't good enough for Luke back then?

But she absolutely didn't want to admit it when it was laid bare.

"Ms. Miller," Debbie felt humiliated and took a sip of coffee to cover her embarrassment, "I didn't mention money because I know you're proud and didn't want to embarrass you. Since you brought it up, the Taylor family certainly won't be stingy. Two million dollars might not be enough for you. How much do you want?"

For other women, Debbie could easily give some money to get rid of them, but Elsa, she never thought about money. She didn't think Elsa was someone who could be bought off.

She was surprised that Elsa brought it up.

Elsa had enough fun and stopped smiling. "I was joking, Mrs. Taylor."

"On this matter, I completely agree with you. I will definitely keep my distance from Luke and not see him again. I can't control Luke, so I hope you can persuade him more. As for myself, I will definitely not seek him out and will avoid him."

She looked serious, meeting Debbie's eyes with every word.

"Luke and I are not meant to be, but I am always grateful and hope he will be happy in the future."

Debbie didn't expect Elsa to be so agreeable today, and thinking of her actions recently, she felt a bit ashamed.

"About the recent headlines, I owe you an apology." She said softly, feeling a bit guilty as she was about to leave.

"Let bygones be bygones." Elsa smiled generously and opened the door for her. "I'll see you out."

Next door, a store was changing its sign, and a worker accidentally dropped it, exclaiming in surprise.

A huge acrylic signboard fell towards Debbie's head.

Elsa reacted quickly and pulled Debbie behind her. The signboard hit her shoulder, and blood flowed profusely.
