Chapter 352 Interrogation

"Go ahead." Elsa calmly took a hair tie from her pocket and tied up her hair. "I have no problem going with you. Tell Ian that without evidence, detention and questioning can't exceed 24 hours. Otherwise, Luke will sue him for abuse of power."

Her nonchalant attitude and the way she casually tied her hair, revealing her beautiful neck, made Luke's heart itch.

"Of course." The police officer was much more nervous than she was.

"I'm leaving," Elsa said to Luke.

Luke nodded calmly, "Go ahead."

Watching Elsa's figure gradually disappear, his eyes turned cold. He took out his phone and dialed Max's number.

"Check Karen's whereabouts recently. It's time to act on Ian's side too."

Tampering with the driver's brake pads—Luke had last seen this method when Elsa was locked in the garage. He had reason to suspect Karen was involved.

Karen indeed had the motive: she was desperate and wanted to take revenge on Elsa. Getting the powerful Hailey to go after her was a good way to do it.

As soon as Elsa entered the police station, she was taken to the interrogation room.

"I've always wanted to see the famous Ms. Miller in person. Now that I have, I must say, you are indeed stunning. Hailey's loss is understandable." The man smoking a cigar in the main seat was Ian, whom Elsa remembered seeing on the news.

"You're too kind." She wore a hospital gown under her trench coat and sat calmly across from Ian.

Ian praised Elsa with his words but looked down on her in his heart. Seeing her so composed, he was taken aback.

Elsa and Luke were exactly alike, with that same commanding presence and strategic mind that Ian was all too familiar with.

"Hailey suspects you caused her car accident. Do you have any explanation?" Ian asked, blowing a smoke ring.

Elsa found it laughable. Who had she offended to be falsely accused like this?

"Whoever makes the accusation should provide the evidence. If Ms. Phillips suspects me, she should prove it."

She was lying in the hospital; why should she have to prove her innocence for a baseless accusation?

"I'm sure Mr. Phillips is well aware of Ms. Phillips' temperament. Don't end up with a false accusation charge and ruin your reputation."

Elsa's words were harsh, implying that Ian should know Hailey's character and not believe her accusations.

Ian's face changed, a thin layer of anger appearing. "Ms. Miller, with the Phillips family's status, just Hailey's dislike for you is enough to put you in jail! The fact that I'm even questioning you is a courtesy. Don't mistake my kindness for weakness!"

Elsa laughed, "If that's the case, why not just convict and arrest me directly?"

She couldn't say she wasn't nervous at all, but Elsa was always good at staying calm in critical situations and not showing her emotions.

"Fine, then I'll lock you up for a few years to appease Hailey."

Ian, now in his fifties and recently elected mayor, was acting so high-handed and absurdly that Elsa was taken aback.

"What, the things Luke used to threaten you with don't work anymore?" Her words were a blatant provocation.

Sure enough, Ian was furious and slammed the table.

"Elsa, do you think Luke would go against me for your sake?"

"Why don't you try and see?"

In fact, Elsa was just being stubborn; she wasn't sure at all. After all, Luke had agreed to pretend to be a couple with Hailey to save face.

As they were at an impasse, Ian's phone rang.

He answered the call, his expression growing increasingly serious.

"I'll be right there."

Ian gave Elsa a strange look and hurried out.

Once Ian left, no one else dared to touch Elsa. She was eventually escorted back to the hospital in a courteous manner.

When she returned to the hospital, Elsa checked the time. The whole ordeal had taken only two or three hours.

Ian, however, wasn't so lucky. He was subjected to a deep investigation by higher authorities and had his home raided the next day.
