Chapter 197 Rival in Love
Jasmine started off by taking a jab at Karen's family, saying they weren't good enough for Luke, and then she turned her sights on Elsa, clearly trying to make her feel small.
'The Miller family isn't good enough for the Taylor family, so how could Elsa be?' Jasmine sneered inwardly.
"Jasmine!" Luke's face turned icy.
Elsa, cutting her steak, saw Luke about to blow up. She casually popped a piece into his mouth and gave him a reassuring look.
Luke, touched by Elsa's gesture, calmed down and started eating slowly.
"My parents passed away, and I have a younger brother at home. I'm not from a wealthy family, so it's normal that Ms. Taylor hasn't heard of me," Elsa said calmly.
Nathan's eyes followed Elsa as she fed Luke. With a playful smile, she cut a piece for Nathan and fed him, keeping her cool.
"Wow, you're really confident to go after Luke with that kind of background," Jasmine shot back.
"Jasmine, just zip it!" Holly, sensing the tension, whispered sharply.
Luke, curious about how Elsa would handle this, watched her with a hint of a mischievous smile.
Elsa acted like she didn't notice, finished feeding Nathan, and wiped his mouth with a napkin. "Winning Luke over shows I'm a good person, and that he's easygoing."
She glanced at Nathan. "Your brother Nathan is great too, never judging people."
With that, Jasmine was left speechless. If Nathan and Luke didn't judge people, then it was just her.
"So you're saying I'm the only one who looks down on you?" Jasmine asked, flustered.
Holly felt so embarrassed she wished she could disappear, while Debbie stayed expressionless, not caring about the drama.
"Just eat your food," Holly said, nudging Jasmine with her elbow.
Jasmine, red with anger, snapped back, "I know you're good at manipulating men. When you were studying abroad, Jonny was always at your beck and call. No wonder you didn't end up with Jonny. Guess he wasn't rich enough for you."
Everyone tensed up; even Debbie glanced awkwardly at Luke.
Luke's smile faded, his face unreadable.
Elsa was secretly surprised.
No wonder Jasmine looked familiar. During Jonny's tough times abroad, there were rumors about a rich girl chasing him. She traveled by private jet, with servants, chefs, and bodyguards, always surrounded by a dozen people.
Jonny liked horseback riding, so she invested in a club for him and organized competitions.
Elsa and Jonny had the same mentor, and Jasmine often visited Jonny, so Elsa had seen her a few times. But she didn't recognize her now because Jasmine wore different makeup back then.
People even teased Jonny to just be with Jasmine, but Jonny always said they weren't a match. Turns out that girl was Jasmine.
'What a small world,' Elsa thought, realizing she had been Jasmine's imagined rival.
"Ms. Taylor, you're mistaken. Jonny and I were just students of the same mentor, so we naturally got close. I always interact with people sincerely, and you've wronged me. Ms. Taylor, you didn't win Jonny's heart back then, so it's understandable to be suspicious of the women around him. But I'm married now, and my heart belongs to Luke. You can rest assured."
"Elsa, what do you mean!" Jasmine, hitting a sore spot, got angry.
Jasmine's crush on Jonny was an open secret in the Taylor family, but because of Dylan's bad reputation, Aaron and Holly always opposed it.
Hearing Elsa's words, Aaron's face darkened. "Jasmine, stop causing trouble! Finish your meal and go home! If you speak rudely to Elsa again, you won't be allowed out anymore!"
