Chapter 440 Giselle "Falls Ill" Again

"You won't love Chloe, but you let her love you. How's that fair?" Elsa asked.

Jonathan was speechless. After a moment, he muttered, "She just likes me."

"So what? She used to love you, but now she has the right to stop. Uncle Jonathan, be honest with yourself. Do you love her? Can you love her like you loved Eric's mom?"

Jonathan fell silent.

After waiting a while, Elsa spoke again, "If you can't do it, why expect it from her? Uncle Jonathan, I thought you were a fair person."

Jonathan put away his phone, feeling utterly speechless at Elsa's questions.

He admitted that for a moment, he was shaken by her words.

He had always thought no one could replace his ex-wife, Whitney, in his heart. Who would have thought that Chloe, whom he had known for just a year, almost did?

No, it couldn't be!

His greatest love would always be Whitney, who lived forever in his memory.

Jonathan never managed to contact Chloe. When he got home, he felt restless.

Giselle was sitting in the living room. Seeing him, she greeted him with a smile, "Have you had dinner? You look terrible. Are you too tired?"

Jonathan gave a cold, indifferent smile and went straight upstairs without answering Giselle.

Giselle, being sensitive and suspicious, immediately understood what was going on from Jonathan's attitude. However, she didn't think of Elsa; she assumed Chloe had complained about him.

Seeing Jonathan go upstairs, she cautiously followed with a fruit platter and knocked on his door, "Mr. King, these cherries just arrived by air. No matter how tired you are, you should try some."

Jonathan sneered in his room. No wonder Elsa and Chloe didn't like Giselle. If it weren't for that recording, he would have been fooled by her all these years!

"No need, Ms. Montague. Enjoy them yourself. Although you're my mother's goddaughter, we should still maintain proper boundaries. It's best if we avoid any misunderstandings." His cold words came through the door, making Giselle even more certain of her suspicions.

She bit her lip and spoke in her usual gentle, pitiful voice, "Mr. King, you must have heard something from Ms. Clark. But Ms. Clark likes you and knows my feelings. Her judgment of me can't be objective."

"Then tell me, Ms. Montague, what would Chloe say about you?" Jonathan sneered.

"I... I don't know, but Elsa and Chloe both dislike me. It's my fault. I couldn't control myself and fell in love with you."

Through the door, Mr. King could even hear her faint sobbing.

"Chloe didn't say anything. If you keep this up, I'll start to suspect you've really done something shady."

Jonathan couldn't bring himself to argue with a cancer patient. He sighed, "I'm just tired today and in a bad mood. Stop overthinking. And don't meet Chloe alone anymore. We've broken up, and you shouldn't bother her."

As Giselle was about to say something, Jonathan said calmly, "Go downstairs."

Giselle had no choice but to stay silent.

However, her sensitive and suspicious nature wasn't something that could change overnight. She wouldn't become open-minded just because of one explanation from Whitney.

That night, Giselle tossed and turned, unable to sleep. The next day, she couldn't get out of bed.

A terminal cancer patient shouldn't overthink, so Giselle's illness was understandable.

Lara was heartbroken and busied herself taking care of Giselle, urging Jonathan to put his work aside and go to the hospital.

"I have a billion-dollar project. I really can't leave. I'll go later," Jonathan said dismissively and left as usual.

In the past, he would have gone no matter what. Now, he was even wondering how much of Giselle's illness was real.

Giselle stayed in the hospital for a week, and Jonathan, using the excuse of being busy, didn't visit her once.

During that week, he was indeed busy, but not just to avoid seeing Giselle. He wanted to keep himself occupied to forget Chloe's tearful eyes.

Chloe hadn't appeared since that day, but she had taken over his mind, repeatedly, unshakably.

As for their next meeting, it was at Dylan's funeral, but that's another story.
