Chapter 431 Karen's Return

"That guy just tried to hurt himself and freaked Giselle out," Jonathan explained to Chloe, realizing he was filling her in.

"Take good care of Ms. Montague. We're heading out," Chloe nodded slightly, her smile perfect.

What was her deal? Not jealous? Or did she not believe him? Jonathan felt a wave of frustration, but before he could say anything, Chloe had already pulled Elsa away.

"Mr. King, is Ms. Clark upset?"

Giselle's tears soaked Jonathan's shirt. Seeing Chloe leave, she finally let go of Jonathan's waist, looking down in panic and asking pitifully.

Jonathan sighed, "Why would she be upset? She seemed pretty happy to me."

How had he never noticed Giselle's sensitivity and suspicion before?

"I mean, me hugging you like that, would it cause unnecessary trouble between you and Ms. Clark?" Giselle asked again, seeing Jonathan staring at Chloe's retreating figure.

"Maybe a little. Just be more careful next time."

Jonathan didn't want to tell her that Chloe had already drawn a clear line between them, so he responded indifferently.

Giselle's face turned exceptionally pale.

Weren't they over? What did Jonathan mean by this?

Jonathan started walking out, and Giselle hurried to catch up, "Paxton and I are just friends. I didn't know he wanted to pursue me. It was so embarrassing today, we probably can't even be friends anymore."

She spoke softly, her tone full of regret.

Seeing Jonathan unresponsive, she called out, "Mr. King."

"What did you say?" Jonathan's eyes hadn't left Chloe's back. The puffy jacket she wore today was probably the bulkiest of all her clothes. Chloe was determined not to show any charm in front of him!

"I said Paxton and I are just friends. I didn't know he wanted to pursue me."

"Who's Paxton?"

Giselle bit her lower lip, looking aggrieved. Jonathan finally snapped out of it, "Don't worry, I'll make sure he gets a lesson. He won't bother you again."

His heart had already followed Chloe far away.

Leaving the restaurant, it was still early.

Elsa looked at her watch and laughed, "Even a work lunch wouldn't be this quick, right? Dinner and a 'show' in just twenty minutes."

Chloe's face was expressionless, "Just the way I like it."

"Aren't you worried Uncle Jonathan might feel sorry for Giselle because of this, and they might end up together?" Elsa always felt Chloe hadn't completely let go of Jonathan. Agreeing to dinner today was probably to gauge her feelings.

"It doesn't concern me. As long as Mr. King is happy."

It seemed she really had moved on. Elsa breathed a sigh of relief.

It was still early, and the restaurant was above a mall, so they decided to go shopping.

"I asked the sales associate to hold a rare leather bag for me last time. Let's go check it out," Chloe said, leading Elsa to the luxury store.

Unexpectedly, just before reaching the store, Elsa suddenly stopped and pulled Chloe aside.

"What?" Years of understanding told Chloe something was up, so she asked with her eyes.

"Karen," Elsa whispered, just loud enough for the two of them to hear.

Chloe looked over and saw a sales associate respectfully escorting a lavishly dressed woman with short hair and red lips out.

Was this Karen? The change was too drastic!
