Chapter 85 Consolidating Position
Max followed Luke's instructions and came downstairs to see if Elsa was adjusting well. He overheard some gossip and naturally couldn't stand such a scene.
"Since you discuss a colleague's private matters during work hours and even use insulting language, your bonuses for this month are all revoked," Max's stern voice echoed in the break room. The female employees immediately fell silent, not daring to make another sound.
When Max came out, Elsa was standing outside with a cup of water, smiling as she waited for him.
"Thank you," Elsa said, without a trace of embarrassment or grievance on her face.
"You're welcome, Mrs. Taylor. Don't take it to heart," Max quickly replied.
Elsa had only been here for a day and rumors were already spreading in the office. Max's first suspect was also Margaret.
"It's okay. what they said is true."
Elsa had heard similar comments the night before and had already told herself not to pay any mind to them. To live until the day she could bring down the Miller family, she had to let go of her pride and be invulnerable.
When those colleagues came out of the break room and saw Elsa standing at the door, they looked even more embarrassed.
Elsa treated this as a minor episode and didn't take it to heart.
She returned to her desk with the water and continued working on her half-finished sketch.
"Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Taylor wants to know what you'd like for lunch. He's having a five-star hotel prepare it for you." a tall shadow fell over her as Max returned.
Elsa was stunned and looked up.
'Luke has specifically asked Max to check on my lunch so openly. What is this about?' Elsa thought.
"I haven't decided yet. Tell him not to worry about me and just order for himself."
"No, Mr. Taylor said you had a stomachache last night and he must personally supervise your lunch."
Dozens of people in the cubicles around them looked up curiously, then quickly looked away.
Elsa believed that within the next hour and a half, the entire department and even all of Dalton Banks would know that Luke's assistant, Max, called her Mrs. Taylor.
"It doesn't hurt today." Elsa's face suddenly flushed with embarrassment.
Although Elsa hadn't planned on keeping her identity a secret, she couldn't help but blush when so many people knew that Luke was showing such affection for her.
"Your stomach needs proper care. Let the chef make you some chicken soup," Max insisted.
"Tell Luke it's not necessary."
"What's the trouble in ordering food for my own wife?" Luke walked in from the doorway, leaning on the back of Elsa's chair to look at her sketch.
"Your work is so beautiful, darling. You're so talented," Luke said, suddenly remembering something.
"Max, remember those two diamonds when Elsa and I got our marriage certificate? Bring them for Mrs. Taylor to design."
"Yes, Mr. Taylor."
Luke and Max took turns speaking to Elsa, making it clear to everyone that they were solidifying her position.
"Darling, you've already given me the Christie pink diamond bracelet. There's no need for a diamond ring." Elsa added fuel to the fire.
The Christie pink diamond bracelet from the auction was bought by Luke for Elsa! This news was like a bombshell in Dalton Banks' design department.
Everyone present, recalling their cold attitude towards Elsa that morning, felt a chill in their hearts.
"The pink diamond bracelet was ready-made, but our wedding rings should be designed by you. It's time to go," Luke said, looking at his watch and wrapping his arm around Elsa's waist to help her up.
"Just a little more, let me finish the sketch." Elsa was reluctant to leave her work.
Luke took the pen from her hand without giving her a chance to argue and draped her blazer over her shoulders.
"Be good. Let's eat first."
It wasn't until Luke and Elsa left that the others started whispering among themselves.
"Didn't they say Elsa was clinging to Mr. Taylor? It looks completely the opposite!"
"Mr. Taylor said she had a stomachache last night. Are they living together?"
"Didn't you hear Mr. Taylor say they got their marriage certificate?"
