Chapter 417 Find Eight Men
Elsa glanced at Chloe, feeling a tight pain in her chest.
She knew Chloe felt insecure around Jonathan, but she hadn't realized it was this bad.
She had thought Chloe's insistence on being with Jonathan, despite his indifference, was just a way to get closer to him and win his love.
Who knew Chloe actually felt that way deep down?
"You must have been really sad back then," Elsa said.
Chloe knew Jonathan didn't love her and had no expectations, yet she still offered herself up like a sacrifice.
Chloe shook her head.
"Honestly, I was happy. Do you understand how addicts feel? They often feel empty and in pain afterward, sometimes even during, but they can't stop. Jonathan was my addiction, but now he no longer affects me."
"You were brainwashed."
"No, Mr. King had no flaws except not loving me."
Chloe shook her head again. "If I was brainwashed, it was by myself."
Elsa sighed. True, she couldn't pinpoint any fault in Jonathan. He never promised Chloe anything, not even a lie.
Love was complicated. Even with Luke, despite their deep trust and reliance on each other now, their past was still a mess, impossible to untangle.
"I've loved, I've made love, and I have no regrets," Chloe said, patting Elsa's hand. "Wipe that pained look off your face. I've kicked the habit. Shouldn't you be happy for me?"
Elsa had to admit, Chloe seemed genuine. Sometimes, clarity came in a moment.
Better this than being entangled with Jonathan forever. Elsa felt a sense of relief.
"So, how about a celebration?" Chloe suggested, eyeing her empty coffee cup and taking a sip from Elsa's, grimacing at the bitterness of the espresso.
Elsa laughed at her expression and took her cup back.
"Where to?"
"Let's find eight guys and have some fun."
Elsa nearly spit out her coffee.
Chloe's club was a bit on the wild side, no special services, but at nine in the evening, she drove Elsa to a place eight blocks from the Diamond Crest Clubhouse.
"Always go far for a fling, but close for gambling. Even if we get caught here, it won't embarrass my parents," Chloe quipped before getting out of the car.
Elsa broke into a cold sweat. "Chloe, with your looks, any guy would be lucky to have you. Paying for it seems like a waste."
Hearing Chloe talk about flings and gambling was surreal. Had she lost her mind?
Chloe pulled out a thick wad of cash from the glove compartment and put on her sunglasses. "Not a waste. After being someone's unpaid lover for months, I deserve to be pampered. I need balance. Once I know how good it feels to be treated well, I won't settle for less."
Her reasoning was sound, but Elsa had no such desires.
"If you're sure, let's go in." Through the car window, she saw the club's doorman eyeing them.
"Let's go," Chloe said, pulling her out of the car.
Chloe had driven a Rolls-Royce Phantom today, and the sight of two petite women stepping out of the 15-foot-long car was striking.
The club staff, recognizing them as VIPs, quickly ushered them in, where a group of tall, handsome male models awaited.
Coincidentally, Jonathan had a meeting at the hotel next to the club. The hotel and club shared a parking lot, and as he arrived, he spotted Chloe's car and then saw the two women getting out.
