Chapter 12 The Designer Competition
After eating, Elsa dozed off again. When she woke up, she found Chloe sitting by the hospital bed, tears streaming down her face.
"I was just asleep, not dead," Elsa was touched but pretended to joke casually. "Aren't you supposed to be on a business trip for two weeks? Why did you come back early?"
"I was consumed by my own thoughts. Don't flatter yourself. I'm not shedding tears for you. You're just being overly sentimental."
Chloe hastily wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes.
Elsa found Chloe's red nose quite cute, so she smiled again.
"I've thought about it. Selling alcohol at the club isn't a long-term plan for you. Didn't you study design? Next week, Dalton Banks is hosting a designer competition with a top prize of $40,000 and a three-year contract opportunity. However, the competition is by invitation only. So I'll recommend you to the organizing committee today, so get ready."
Chloe heard about Elsa's recent encounter and felt guilty for messing up the media press release, so she ended her trip early just to tell Elsa about this.
However, there was one thing that Chloe didn't tell Elsa: Apart from the Clark family, the biggest shareholder behind Dalton is the Taylor family.
If Luke could see Elsa's merits in this designer competition, it might help with Elsa's plans.
"You're so kind to me." Elsa reached out to hug Chloe.
"No need." Chloe looked disdainful, but there was a hint of a smile in her eyes.
Elsa only stayed in the hospital for three days, then in spite of the doctor's advice, she hurried home. She opened her email and really found the invitation to the Dalton Designer Competition.
This competition was in preparation for the Halloween jewelry launch, requiring designers to create designs centered on the theme of "love."
The deadline was two weeks away, so it was urgent for her.
Elsa remained confined to her home for a fortnight, delegating the care of Vincent to Chloe. She only made sporadic visits to see Vincent.
She researched extensively and created numerous design versions but only selected the most satisfactory one to submit half an hour before the deadline.
On Luke's side, he was already very busy, and Elsa's appearance was like a brief interlude that was soon forgotten.
It wasn't until the finance minister came to sign the payment confirmation form that he remembered.
"Has the bank paid two checks of $200,000 recently?" he casually asked, frowning when he received a negative answer.
The checks were overdue, but Elsa hadn't collected them. He thought, ‘What does she want exactly? It has been half a month since I last saw her. This woman seems stubborn but also quite easy to give up.Could she have died in the hospital?’ He started to worry with a racing mind.
He dialed his assistant Max's number. "Go to the hospital and check…" said he in a hurry but paused halfway, feeling he was overly concerned about Elsa.
"It's nothing,” he said. Before Max could respond, he hung up.
On the other end, Max was puzzled. Luke had been really strange lately.
