Chapter 122 Selling Daughter for Money

Elsa figured out in the second week that David had sold his daughter for benefits.

"Last Friday, David hit up the notary office to get his will sorted. He's leaving 100% of the Miller family's business and assets to Karen after he kicks the bucket. What's his deal? Is he sick or something that he's in such a rush to make a will?" Chloe got the scoop from her secret sources and couldn't help but be nosy.

"I got another juicy tidbit for you: Dylan Jones announced that all future fire protection projects are going to the Miller Group. He's already inked the deal for the Light City real estate project with a 30% advance payment," Elsa said, cool as a cucumber.

David was in tip-top shape, so the only reason he'd rush to make a will was to keep Karen in line. Basically, it was hush money. And the reason for that became crystal clear with the second piece of news.

"Looks like Dylan Jones nailed it," Chloe said, almost speechless, unable to help but complain.

She continued, "David must be out of his mind with poverty, sending his daughter to be ruined by some old dude in his fifties. Cutting ties with him was a smart move for you."

To the outside world, this will wouldn't change much. David was never gonna leave the family biz to Elsa and Vincent. Unless he had a secret kid, this was pointless.

But Dylan's contract was a lifeline for the Miller family.

The project was nearly $30 million, and a 30% advance payment was $9 million. For the Miller family, it was like rain after a drought.

"So what if he made a will? Does David think the Miller family will have any inheritance left for future generations? Elsa, don't sweat it, I'll find out who's in charge of the fire inspection and give the Miller family a hard time." Chloe, worried Elsa would be bummed, tried to cheer her up.

"No need, I'll handle this myself, " Elsa siad firmly.

The Clark family wasn't just Chloe's. The big boss was Terry. Chloe had been warned by Terry multiple times for using her position to meddle in Elsa and the Miller family's affairs. Although Chloe never whined, Elsa didn't want to make things tough for her.

The Miller family's project was about to kick off, and Elsa felt she should take a trip to Light City.

So, Elsa used visiting Vincent as a cover for her Friday off request, but the truth was she had already snagged a ticket to Light City for Thursday night.

Leaving Friday morning and coming back Sunday night, three days would be enough for Elsa to snoop around.

So on Friday morning, Elsa didn't head to work with Luke.

"Where you headed?" On Friday morning, after freshening up, Luke saw Elsa tossing clothes into a suitcase and asked.

"I'm going to see Vincent, leaving today, back on Sunday," Elsa said without looking up.

This was the answer Elsa had practiced in her head. She needed to say it casually and avoid Luke's eyes.

Luke raised an eyebrow but didn't say a word. After a bit, he walked into the bedroom and came back with his pajamas.

"When you have nightmares at night, you can hold my pajamas. The familiar scent will make you feel more at ease." Luke folded the pajamas into a small bundle and stuffed them into Elsa's suitcase.

"That's nonsense, it has nothing to do with the pajamas. I need to hear your heartbeat," Elsa said as she closed the suitcase. Halfway through, she realized how flirty her words sounded and blushed.

Luke didn't miss the look on Elsa's face, and his heart skipped a beat.

"Why be shy about saying sweet stuff to your own hubby?" Luke suddenly leaned in and kissed her, holding her chin.

Luke had just finished freshening up and his chin still smelled of aftershave, with a fresh minty taste on his lips.

Luke's kiss deepened bit by bit, and Elsa felt herself melting into it, her legs going weak as she leaned into his arms.

"Go on, or you'll miss your 10 o'clock flight," Luke said with a grin, looking at Elsa's flushed cheeks and watery eyes.

"Okay," Elsa replied, feeling a bit dazed as she suddenly caught on. "How did you know it?"
