Chapter 215 Don't Take Risks

Elsa didn't bother asking Luke why he showed up at the hospital so late; she just hugged him back.

Without that nightmare and Luke being there for her, their marriage might have fallen apart.

At dawn, Elsa and Luke got her discharged and headed home together.

Because of her health, Elsa asked Sylvie if she could work remotely. Sylvie agreed, but Elsa's base salary got cut in half, though her commission stayed the same.

"Taking care of yourself is good for Dalton Banks' bottom line. If Luke's not happy, we might be in trouble," Sylvie joked with Elsa.

Neither Elsa nor Luke talked about what happened, but Elsa knew it wasn't over. She marked another circle in her notebook; there were three before, now four. She promised herself that when she hit five, she'd file for divorce.

Elsa, usually so carefree, was now super cautious, dreading the day she'd draw that final circle.

In her old life, Luke didn't matter; marriage or divorce, it was all the same. But now, loving Luke changed everything.

After they made love, she took an emergency contraceptive pill right in front of him.

"Why are you taking that?" Luke's face went ice-cold.

"I don't want a kid right now," Elsa said honestly.

She had no clue what other hurdles their marriage might face. Having a kid too soon would be unfair to the child.

"Is it that you don't want a kid, or you don't want a kid with me?" Luke snapped, clearly upset.

Elsa went quiet. Maybe she was being paranoid, but after everything, Luke seemed colder. They still shared a bed, but he didn't seem interested in sex anymore.

They'd been married less than seven months, but Elsa was already struggling to keep it together.

Thinking about her marriage gave Elsa a headache, and Luke felt the same. He was never easygoing, and now he barely smiled.

But those days didn't last long because Elsa had a new problem to deal with.

Christian sent over the latest financial report for the Miller Group. Last month, they broke a five-year sales record, becoming the top earner in the industry again.

Christian said the the Miller Group got a huge order for doors and windows for prefab houses from the biggest northern region. David got lucky with the construction of container hospitals, with massive demand and cash payments, turning things around in less than two months.

David even started looking into going public.

This news yanked Elsa back from her relationship drama with Luke.

'If I can't fix my relationship with Luke, I might as well get some revenge,' Elsa thought.

She thought the Miller family would go downhill after the Jones family's project failed. But she underestimated David, and he turned things around.

"Chloe, do you know 'the glove'?" Elsa called Chloe.

"The glove" referred to people who did dirty work for the rich, looking just as glamorous as the upper class.

"Don't do anything reckless!" Chloe warned, clearly worried.
