Chapter 159 Slander

"Wow, I never thought Mr. Taylor was innocent, but here he is, having Elsa locked up!" Max thought to himself, as he glanced at Elsa, who was handcuffed, feeling a headache coming on. How was he going to resolve this mess?

Elsa was daydreaming on the bed. When she saw Max come in, she just glanced at him and looked away.

Max remarked, "Mrs. Taylor, we had our reasons for bringing you back."

"I know," Elsa said calmly, without any emotion.

Max continued, "The boss just doesn't know how to show his feelings. He really cares about you. Yesterday, when you stayed in Light City, he had Joseph's boss look out for you."

No wonder Joseph knew Elsa's identity halfway through the game.

"Did Joseph tell Luke I was playing golf with him?" Elsa questioned.

"Of course not, it was Mrs. Debbie Taylor! She somehow found out and called in the middle of the night, demanding the boss divorce you. You have your reasons, but it's understandable Mr. Taylor is angry." Max sat down by the bed.

"Mrs. Taylor, sometimes all you need is a word from Mr. Taylor. Instead of negotiating with outsiders, why not just sweet-talk him? Mr. Taylor is simple and cares about you. If you coax him, what can't you get?"

Having been with Luke for a long time, Max knew he was easygoing with his own people. As long as they went along with his temper, he would spoil them.

But Elsa was too stubborn. She wasn't the type to be handed a mansion by a benefactor and simply say, "Thank you."

Elsa, with Luke giving her pink diamonds and office buildings worth billions, didn't seem particularly grateful. Yet Max could tell she wasn't someone who didn't care about fame and fortune.

So Max speculated that she either didn't care about money or simply didn't have feelings for Luke. Then he found it unbelievable! Mr. Taylor was so charming that it was impossible for anyone to dislike him.

While Max was lost in thought, Elsa was shocked by his words.

Luke seemed indifferent to her plans, but he had quietly done so much? All along, it seemed he had been silently protecting her.

She felt complicated.

And Debbie knowing she played golf with Joseph, someone must have tattled. Who was it? Karen or Margaret?

If Margaret knew Joseph, that would be acceptable. But if it was Karen, that would be troublesome.

Elsa didn't speak, but her mind was racing.

Luke said she would be grounded for three days. By the time she was let out, it would be too late.

She had to think of a way!

"Are you two very idle?" Luke was annoyed. After finishing a meeting and returning to the CEO's office, he saw Karida and Terry still there and frowned.

"We don't want to be here either. Your mother asked us to persuade you not to ruin the Taylor family's reputation for a moment of novelty." Karida poured herself a cup of tea. "But seriously, after all this time, are you still infatuated with Elsa?"

"Cut the crap," Luke snorted coldly. "If there's nothing else, you should leave."

"Luke, Elsa isn't right for you. Since being with her, your temperament has changed. Margaret, whether in personality or family background, is a better match for you," Terry said.

Luke had heard Terry say this countless times and was finally annoyed.

He stared at Terry with a half-smile. "Since Margaret came back, you've been badmouthing Elsa. But Elsa has never spoken ill of you. Terry, Elsa is my wife. If you still consider me a friend, don't let me hear any more bad words about her from you."
