Chapter 154 Joseph and Golf
Later, Joseph nailed a hole-in-one, and the crowd went nuts.
On the 36-hole course, about 300 caddies lined up for tips. Joseph casually whipped out his bank card and had someone withdraw stacks of cash to hand out, which made Elsa rethink her opinion of him.
How was he so loaded? His salary didn't add up!
Each caddie got a few hundred bucks.
Noticing Elsa's confusion, Jonathan chimed in, "Joseph comes from a military family. He ended up in the housing department by chance. If he wasn't here, he'd probably be a colonel."
'With that background, it's no wonder he's generous. His assets were clear when he joined the government,' Elsa thought.
"Want to take a shot?" Joseph asked Elsa, handing her his club after giving out the money.
"I can try, but if I make a hole-in-one, I can't afford the tips," Elsa joked.
"You, Mrs. Taylor, can't afford tips? Mr. Taylor just spent $200 million on an office building for you. It caused quite a stir," Joseph joked.
Just a moment ago, he seemed like a stranger, but now he knew so much.
Jonathan shrugged. "That wasn't from me."
Elsa felt a bit embarrassed.
She came here as Mrs. Taylor to caddy for Joseph. If word got out, the Taylor family would be a joke.
She didn't mind being laughed at, but Luke being laughed at was unacceptable.
With a thousand thoughts racing, she calmly took the club.
A hole-in-one was out of the question, but she didn't back down. She made it in three strokes on a par-three and finished a par-five in four strokes.
"How about that?" Jonathan, arms crossed, smiled at Joseph.
"She's scary smart, and she's got this whole proud and stubborn thing going on," Joseph remarked.
Typically, another woman might have pretended not to know how and gotten close to him for guidance.
Elsa didn't realize her performance had impressed Joseph.
After the game, they hit up a nearby restaurant for a late-night snack.
"Ms. Miller, let's talk about your purpose," Joseph said, looking at Elsa with a probing gaze.
"The Jones family’s development near Construction Road has fire safety issues. I hope you can be honest during the inspection," Elsa said, discreetly turning on her phone's recording function. She wanted a backup plan if Joseph ignored the issues.
"Do you have a grudge against the Jones family?" Joseph asked.
"No, I don't."
"Then you must have a grudge against the Miller family who did the fire safety."
"Mr. Garcia, that's my personal business," Elsa said, pressing her lips together.
"Hand it over," Joseph said, extending his hand.
Seeing Elsa hesitate, he added, "Your evidence?"
Elsa showed him the photos she had taken, declaring, "Besides the fire windows, there are issues with the fire equipment and doors. Please pay attention during your inspection!"
She also took out the newspaper Christian had.
"This is a project from 10 years ago. The person responsible for the inspection back then was Mr. Parker. I trust that with your character and status, you wouldn't want to accept such a bribe." Elsa dared to negotiate because she was sure Joseph wouldn't want to collaborate with the Miller family.
