Chapter 203 Giving Her a Gift

Luke rolled up to the Taylor Estate just after 7 AM, clutching the pair of necklaces. Debbie was up, having breakfast with the help of the servants.

'What's he doing here so early? Shouldn't he be with Elsa?' she thought, spotting Luke.

"Mom, we need to talk," Luke said, plopping down across from Debbie and pulling out two boxes with the necklaces inside.

He then laid out the whole story of Rhys giving the necklace to Leslie and wrapped it up with, "So, Elsa is always meant to be my wife. I hope you can respect her from now on."

Debbie listened quietly, not saying a word. After a long pause, she hesitantly asked, "Is everything you said true?"

"I had Max check Grandpa's medical records from back then. It's absolutely true," Luke confirmed.

Debbie was floored.

Rhys had only mentioned setting up a great marriage for Luke but never explained why. Now, Elsa realized it was probably because Arthur had just passed away, and Rhys, trying to protect her, had kept his own health issues hidden.

Debbie had always held Rhys in high regard. Because of this, when David came with the necklace, she agreed so quickly.

"So, Leslie did a huge favor for the Taylor family." Debbie mused for a long time, feeling a bit ashamed when she thought about her attitude towards Elsa since she joined the family.

She wanted to apologize but couldn't bring herself to do it.

After pondering for a while, Debbie suddenly went upstairs and came back down with a locked antique jewelry box.

She opened it in front of Luke, revealing dozens of grape-sized pearls, along with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies.

"I've prepared a wedding gift for my future daughter-in-law. You can take it to Elsa," Debbie said somewhat awkwardly.

Luke laughed. "So, you couldn't bring yourself to give it to her before, and now you're okay with it?"

"Don't talk nonsense," Debbie scolded, "I never wanted Elsa as a daughter-in-law, and you should know the reason, right?"

"I know."

Because Elsa was too smart and too independent—qualities that were least needed in their family.

"In families like ours, parents often interfere in their children's marriages because no one wants their child to marry someone they deeply love. If you love her, she will become your weakness."

"I just hope that when you two part ways, you don't get too hurt."

"Mom, that day will never come. Elsa will never leave me," Luke said, his expression turning serious, revealing the cold and ruthless side he usually showed to outsiders.

Thinking about them parting, Luke felt a pang in his heart and a tightness in his throat.

"Alright, I won't say anything more."

Debbie sighed. 'At the mere mention of Elsa, Luke would become exceedingly sensitive.'

"Fine, take the gift back to her. I'm getting old, and I won't meddle in your affairs anymore," Debbie said.

For someone as strong-willed as Debbie, this was a major compromise. Only then did Luke smile and take the box.

"Since you've given her the wedding gift, I'll take it as you accepting her as your daughter-in-law. No more bullying my wife," Luke said, leaning in and half-joking with Debbie.

Debbie, annoyed, reached out and twisted Luke's ear. "Stop annoying me and get out."
