Chapter 286 Uninvited Guest
"Why did you move? Did you move out of the Jones Mansion? Did you have a falling out with Dylan?" Elsa instinctively felt this had something to do with Jonny quietly letting her go, and she bombarded him with questions over the phone.
"Pretty much. I can't be bothered to argue with Dylan, whose health is getting worse by the day," Jonny said, sounding rather cheerful. "By the way, I also invited Chloe and a few other friends. When you come, remember to buy a fish. I'll cook it for you."
A housewarming party was a tradition in Maplewood City, where people invited friends and family to celebrate moving into a new home.
After a quick lunch, Elsa went to the market to buy a fish. She also bought two broad-leaf plants and had the flower market deliver them directly.
Jonny's new place was a duplex, originally intended as an investment for a studio, but it had temporarily become his residence.
"I feel a bit guilty," Elsa said, watching him cook in the kitchen.
"Don't be melodramatic unless you marry me." Jonny rolled his eyes disdainfully. "I've been wanting to move out for a while. As for the Jones family, what good is Dylan's stubbornness now? The company is full of my people."
In the past six months since he returned, Jonny had accomplished a lot, and Dylan had lost a lot of power.
Hearing this, Elsa felt a bit relieved. "Then let's have some drinks tonight to celebrate your new life."
"That sounds about right," Jonny said proudly, nodding towards the kitchen door with his chin. "Get out of here. I need to start cooking, or you'll end up smelling like oil and smoke."
"Got it, Chef," Elsa laughed as she stepped out.
Besides Elsa and Chloe, there were three of Jonny's male friends. The six of them quickly became acquainted.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"My fried chicken is here." Someone jumped up to answer the door. When he opened the door, he asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Everyone turned to see Jasmine standing at the door with a sour expression.
"Did you invite her?" Elsa asked.
"Definitely not me." Jonny was also annoyed by her.
Remembering all the wrongs Jasmine had done to her, Elsa's eyes darkened.
"Let's switch seats." She signaled to Chloe on Jonny's right and then to the young man on his left. Though confused, he still made room for Elsa.
When Jasmine walked in, she saw Elsa and Chloe sitting on either side of Jonny, chatting happily.
"Jonny, congratulations on your new home," Jasmine said sweetly, trying hard to suppress her temper.
"Thanks," Jonny replied indifferently, nodding. Seeing Jasmine standing there, he reluctantly asked, "Have you eaten yet? Why don't you sit down and have some?"
Jasmine felt a bit awkward but still quietly said, "Okay."
Jonny's friends quickly made room for her. Jasmine wanted to sit next to Jonny, but Elsa and Chloe watched her like hawks, so she had to give up.
"Ms. Taylor, try this fish. It was so fresh when I bought it this afternoon, which almost bit my hand," Elsa said to Jasmine, her tone slightly exaggerated.
"How could it bite your hand without teeth?" As expected, Jonny never let her words go unchallenged.
"It did bite me. Look." Elsa showed her hand with an imaginary wound to Jonny, then laughed. "Fools can't see it."
Jonny laughed heartily. "I see it. Here, let me blow on it to make it better!"
The table erupted in laughter, except for Jasmine, whose face turned red with frustration.
