Chapter 336 The Clever Elsa
"Ms. Phillips, my office is under surveillance."
After she had said enough, Elsa calmly raised her eyes and said in a composed manner.
She wasn't afraid of Hailey.
Sure enough, Hailey was startled but still retorted stubbornly, "You're lying!"
"Why would I lie to you? See for yourself." Elsa gestured with her eyes towards the camera above. "It has audio too."
As expected, Hailey was completely flustered.
"Elsa, I'm sorry, I was being immature! It was my fault!"
She suddenly grabbed Elsa's arm and started crying.
Elsa let Hailey cry for a while, then pulled a tissue from her desk and handed it to her, advising in a calm tone, "Ms. Phillips, I have no intention of interfering in your relationship with Luke. Please also advise your boyfriend to stop disturbing my life."
"Can you delete the surveillance footage?" Hailey asked, sniffling.
"Ms. Phillips, it's actually a smoke detector." Elsa smiled.
She had just bluffed Hailey, not expecting her to be so naive and believe it.
Hailey's face was still tear-streaked, and her expression changed rapidly, making it quite a spectacle.
"Elsa, you tricked me!" She was both embarrassed and angry.
"I was just giving you a reminder: don't act recklessly, consider your status, so as not to bring shame to Mr. Phillips." Elsa's words were neither soft nor hard as she returned to her desk.
"Ms. Phillips, take care. I won't see you out."
Hailey had originally come to intimidate Elsa, but instead, she was the one who got played. Feeling both humiliated and angry, she left in a huff, just as she had arrived, without daring to utter a harsh word.
Applause sounded from outside the door as Leo, who had been watching the drama unfold, walked into the assistant's office.
He leaned casually against the door, laughing uncontrollably at Elsa.
"Elsa, are you really only 21 years old?"
"Mr. Adams, you do love a good show." Elsa raised an eyebrow at him. Leo was supposed to have a disdain for people, yet he had such a mischievous side. She wondered how he managed to maintain such a cold exterior to others.
"I was worried you'd be wronged."
"Did you develop this wit from battling the Miller family?" Leo was intrigued by her story.
"No, I was like this since I was 11."
"So, did you really get involved with her and Luke? Why don't you reconcile with Luke if you can't let go?"
"Leo, if you keep this up, I'll resign right now." Elsa rolled her eyes.
Jonathan's factory was almost ready to open, so her resignation was just a matter of time.
"Stay on as my assistant for a few more days. I'm not used to anyone else." Leo started to act spoiled.
"Mr. Taylor, as you expected, Ms. Phillips did go to trouble Ms. Miller, but it seems Ms. Miller wasn't wronged, as Ms. Phillips left LEO Gems Company in tears," Max reported to Luke.
"Do we have someone inside LEO Gems Company? It's best to get the details." Luke nodded.
Given Elsa's temperament, she wouldn't let Hailey take advantage. But Hailey's special status required caution to prevent Elsa from being schemed against for a moment of verbal triumph.
"We do," Max said and then left.
In less than half an hour, he returned to report the details to Luke.
Luke leaned back in his chair, listening with great interest, almost laughing out loud at the end.
Hailey probably never expected to be dismissed with just a few words.
A smart woman easily aroused a man's curiosity and desire to conquer, and Elsa was just such an irresistible presence.
Her aloofness made Margaret seem vulgar, and her wisdom made Hailey appear foolish.
"Ms. Miller is too clever," Max also sincerely admired.
It's a pity she doesn't want Luke. If she did, no woman could be her match.
Thinking this, he looked at Luke with a bit of sympathy.
Luke frowned, "Max, what's with that look?"
"Nothing. I just think Ms. Phillips is quite pitiful." He quickly changed the subject.
"The woman I fancy is naturally exceptionally smart," Luke smirked.
As for Hailey, he had once thought of her as a straightforward and cute little sister, but now he only felt annoyed.
"Keep an eye on the lady's schedule," Luke instructed, suppressing a smile.
"Okay."
