Chapter 123 Listen to the Heartbeat

Luke knew the Jones family giving the project to David would make Elsa act, but he didn't expect her to move so fast.

Vincent's nursing home was close to where Luke and Elsa lived, so there was no need for Elsa to pack a suitcase for a three-day stay.

Given how much Elsa doted on Vincent, it was odd that her suitcase didn't have a single toy or snack.

Elsa was smart, but her little lies were easy to see through. Luke knew she found telling the truth too much trouble sometimes, so she just lied casually.

If Luke caught her lying, he'd pretend not to notice to save her face. As for those who didn't, she didn't seem to care much.

At first, Luke got mad when Elsa lied, but now he understood her better and didn't mind as much.

"Surprised?" Luke reached out to fix Elsa's hair. "Elsa, I have one request: never put yourself in danger."

"Of course, I cherish my life the most!" Elsa brightened up, seeing Luke wasn't mad about her lie. She stood on tiptoe and kissed him. "I'll bring you a gift!"

Luke was pleased by her gesture and called his driver with a smile. "Take Mrs. Taylor to the airport."

On the 16th floor of the Taylor Group building, Luke spent the whole morning thinking about Elsa's words.

"It has nothing to do with pajamas. I need to hear your heartbeat." Luke replayed her words, feeling a tug at his heart.

It wasn't his imagination. Elsa really needed to hear his heartbeat to fall asleep after a nightmare.

The usually tough and formidable Elsa was also a little girl who needed her husband to lull her to sleep. This realization made Luke feel sweet.

If Elsa were always gentle, this dependent side wouldn't be so precious. But Elsa wasn't like that. She was fierce and incredibly strong.

This Elsa found solace in resting her head on Luke's chest at night, listening to his heartbeat as she drifted off to sleep.

Maybe he should go to Light City tonight. Otherwise, he wouldn't feel at ease. Luke thought about it and was about to ask Max to book a flight for the evening when there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

Margaret walked in and saw the gentle smile on Luke's face.

"Margaret, what's up?" Luke asked.

"Luke, can you come home for dinner tonight?" Margaret, wearing a white dress, stood pitifully in front of Luke.

"I have something tonight. I'll definitely visit Uncle Joe another day to apologize." Luke instinctively refused.

Although Luke was angry with the modeling agency over Elsa's model being replaced, his intuition told him Margaret had something to do with it. Since Elsa wasn't home tonight, he should steer clear of Margaret to avoid arousing suspicion.

"But today is my father's birthday. After we met at the hospital that day, he got sick and hasn't recovered yet. Luke, we grew up together. Even if we can't be together, can't we at least be friends?" Margaret said, starting to tear up again.

"Stop, Margaret. I'll go." Luke said.

He now really didn't like women who were always weak.

He liked Elsa, who was like a hedgehog, full of thorns but occasionally showed her soft belly for him to touch.
