Chapter 126 Luke Taylor's Report

To prevent a change of testimony, resorting to murder to silence someone is right up David and Phyllis's alley.David wrecked three families. Just thinking about what he did to Leslie, herself, and Vincent made Elsa shudder.

She inquired, "So, how long you been with the Miller Group?"

"Over a year. Just waiting for the right moment," replied Christian.

Elsa nodded, not bothering with any comforting words.

Everyone's got their own battles. Elsa figured anything she said would sound fake, and she believed someone as tough as Christian would handle his own mess.

Just as Christian and Elsa were wrapping up their chat, her phone buzzed. It was Luke.

"Hey, babe." Elsa motioned for Christian to hang on a sec, answering the call as she walked away.

Luke's heart melted at Elsa's words. "I gotta head to the Collins' tonight. It's Mr. Collins' birthday," he said.

"Okay." Elsa, distracted by the Miller family drama and Christian's dad Keith, responded kinda half-heartedly.

"That's all then." Luke, picking up on Elsa's indifferent vibe, was clearly a bit miffed and was about to hang up.

Only then did Elsa catch the change in Luke's tone and realize he was checking in with her! She was flattered and thought anyone who didn't know Luke might think he was whipped.

So Elsa quickly perked up and said, "Wait, I got something to tell you!"

She stated, "Babe, I won't stop you from going, but you better not hug Margaret. Best to steer clear of her. If she comes at you, push her away. And if you drink, take it easy and come home early. We gotta video call at 10 PM!"

"Got it, Elsa." Luke's voice noticeably softened.

"Alright."

After hanging up, Luke couldn't help but grin. He knew Elsa's last words were to make him happy, but he also knew she was trying her best.

Elsa, with her stunning looks, genuinely didn't get romance, or maybe she was just naturally clueless about it.

Compared to those who played innocent but knew everything, Elsa's act of being worldly was exactly what Luke liked about her.

Luke had a clear line between his people and outsiders. Those in his circle, as long as they didn't cross the line, got his protection. His buddies Terry and Karida were definitely his people, and so was Margaret.

As for Elsa, she kept pushing the boundaries. Luke had thought about whether he was spoiling her too much, but he later realized that finding a woman who fit him so well was rare, so he decided to spoil her.

At 7 PM, Luke rolled up to the Collins' place with two bottles of good wine.

As soon as he walked in, Luke was floored.

He expected a big bash, but Joe's birthday party didn't even have a cake. Besides Margaret's family of three, there were only two guests, Debbie and Luke!

"Luke," Margaret greeted sweetly, setting the table for him.

"Margaret, you didn't mention that the only guests today would be my mom and me." Luke was clearly annoyed as he sat down.

"How can you say that? Your Uncle Joe and our Taylor family go way back. It's only right to hang out," Debbie scolded.

"As I get older, I don't care much for birthdays. Come on! Luke, let's just have a simple family meal," Joe greeted Luke with a smile, not mentioning the hospital incident, as if the guy who had chewed Luke out for being a disgrace was someone else entirely.

Luke had planned to apologize for Elsa's earlier confrontation, but now he saw it wasn't necessary.

"Luke, I was just chatting with your Uncle Joe and about your childhood," Debbie said."When you were little, you always said you wanted to marry Margaret when you grew up. I have always thought of Margaret as my daughter-in-law. Now look at you both, all grown up..."

"Uncle Joe, happy birthday. Mom, you guys enjoy your meal with Uncle Joe and Aunt. I got some work to do at the company, so I won't stay for dinner." Luke said abruptly, standing up with a distant look on his face, interrupting Debbie.

He placed the two bottles of wine on the table and bounced.
