Chapter 279 A Woman Luke Doesn't Want, I Don't Want Either
The headquarters of LEO Gems was quite far from Elsa's place; she had to transfer twice on the subway to find it.
Elsa had sent her resume a week in advance. After a brief exchange with the interviewer, she was directly arranged to meet Leo unexpectedly.
Leo wasn't particularly tall, standing at about 5 feet 10 inches. He had long hair and wore a black suit with a white shirt, paired with a black men's skirt on the lower half.
His appearance and attire were very androgynous, and he even wore a rather feminine pair of pearl earrings.
Men of this type were common in the design industry, so Elsa wasn't surprised. However, Leo's expression was one of untouchable arrogance and coldness, which was intimidating.
Meeting her idol face-to-face for the first time, Elsa's heart was racing a bit.
"Hello, Leo, my name is Elsa," she introduced herself, her eyes unconsciously showing a bit of admiration as she looked at Leo.
Leo was used to women showing admiration for him and didn't find Elsa special. What's more, there was a hint of disdain in his eyes.
"Why did you interrupt your studies and return to the country?" He didn't let Elsa sit down, tapping the table idly with his slender fingers as he asked indifferently. His nails were adorned with black and white nail polish.
Caught off guard by the question, Elsa hesitated for a moment and replied, "I came back to get married."
It wasn't a sincere answer, but she had no choice. She couldn't possibly tell Leo it was to get back at the Miller family.
"But I heard from Mr. King that you're going back to continue your studies the next year."
"Yes, because I got divorced, and I want to continue my education."
"So, is Luke your whole life?" The disdain in Leo's eyes deepened.
So he knew about Luke. Well, who didn't know Luke?
Elsa steadied herself. "Initially, I did think that marrying Luke was more important than my studies, but now I've matured and come to understand that there are more important things in life than marriage."
Of course, that wasn't the truth, but she had no choice but to lie.
"You were abandoned, so you had an epiphany?" Leo's question was clearly malicious.
"Sort of," Elsa nodded expressionlessly.
"Sorry, you don't meet my standards for an assistant." Leo casually set her resume aside and dismissed her indifferently.
"I don't understand." Elsa stared into Leo's eyes. "If your company was rejecting me solely because of my education, you wouldn't have called me for an interview. If it's not about my education," she paused. "you seem unusually interested in my marital status."
With naturally cold eyes, when she locked eyes with Leo, it felt somewhat aggressive.
They stared at each other for a full two minutes before Leo's eyes narrowed maliciously. "Do you want to know the reason?"
He stood up and walked over to Elsa.
"Because I don't want a woman that Luke doesn't want," he whispered in her ear, chuckling mockingly.
What a lunatic! She was here to apply for an assistant position, not to marry him!
Elsa cursed him in her heart but smiled on the surface. "Then you won't be able to hire a female assistant."
"What?" Leo was puzzled.
"All the women in Maplewood City want Luke to be their husband. You might have to hire a male assistant." Elsa crossed her arms and teased him, "You see Luke as a rival, but he might not even know you exist."
"You!" Leo's face turned extremely ugly.
She thought, 'Forget it, working as his assistant wouldn't be a good thing anyway. '
As Elsa left the CEO's office, she thought that Leo would never again be the high and mighty legend in her mind.
Shortly after she left, Jonathan messaged her: [How did it go, Elsa?]
Elsa replied: [It's a long story.]
Then she directly called him. The bizarre story left Jonathan stunned.
"I've dealt with Leo a few times; he's just a bit eccentric but a good person. His behavior today was quite unusual."
"Who knows? Maybe he likes Luke." Elsa couldn't think of any other reason.
"No, Leo likes women," Jonathan said firmly.
He actually liked women! What kind of girlfriend would it take to handle his flamboyance? Elsa imagined Leo being romantic with a woman and got goosebumps all over.
"Let's not talk about him. Mr. King, I have something to consult with you. I want to start a business with $10 million. I need a project that can earn $57 million in a year. What should I do?"
"Find ten robbers, give each $999,900 to rob a bank, and spend an extra $100 on ten pairs of black stockings for them to wear over their heads," Jonathan said seriously.
"I'm serious." Elsa sighed.
"If such a project existed that could multiply your money by 5.7 times in a year, do you think it would be available to you?" He couldn't hold back his laughter.
