Chapter 315 Jealousy
Margaret used to fawn over Luke tirelessly. But the moment Elsa spoke, her face turned a bit awkward.
Everyone present knew her intentions, but only Elsa dared to call her out directly.
"Ms. Miller, are you jealous because of how close Luke and I are?"
Luke's face had been indifferent, showing no expression, but now he looked at Elsa, raising an eyebrow almost imperceptibly.
Was she jealous? How rare. His mood unexpectedly improved.
"Showing off your affection like that just makes it distasteful. If you're in such a hurry, why not get a room instead of polluting everyone else's eyes?" Elsa looked at Margaret with contempt, as if saying, "You think you're worthy of my jealousy?" She stood up calmly.
"Elsa, do you have to be so sharp?" Luke frowned, feeling a pang in his chest. Suggesting he get a room with Margaret—how generous of her!
Elsa smirked, "Wasn't your little show just now meant for me? Or was it for George and Mr. Griffin? Since it was for me, isn't it fair for me to give my review?"
Karida finally cleared his throat after nearly choking on his soup, laughing quietly and giving Elsa a mental thumbs-up.
"Luke and I are in love. How is that for you to see? You're just jealous!" Margaret's face flushed with embarrassment, but she refused to back down.
"How you feel about each other in private is your business. But flaunting it in front of elders and me, his ex-wife, is just distasteful. What, Ms. Collins, are you afraid that if you don't show off now, I'll steal him away? Rest assured, I have no interest in being a homewrecker like you."
Elsa's cold, arrogant face and condescending gaze made others feel inferior.
Her few indifferent words not only insulted Margaret but also included Luke.
She acted as if she was the only one with any dignity in the world!
Luke felt a lump in his throat, his face turning sour.
"Who would've thought that my affection with Margaret would make Ms. Miller so uncomfortable? Ms. Miller, it seems your only talent left is being stubborn." Luke sneered, "George, I have some business to attend to at the company. I'll take my leave."
Luke lifted his long legs to leave.
The atmosphere plummeted to freezing point, and it seemed they were about to part on bad terms.
After watching the drama unfold, George finally cleared his throat and spoke, "Everyone, say a little less! Luke, I rarely come to Maplewood City, and you're just going to leave? I'm already so old; who knows if I'll see you again! And you two, if you still consider me your grandfather, stop arguing. If not, just pretend I didn't say anything."
George's voice sank, sounding exceptionally sad.
Only Karida didn't miss his brilliant performance.
"Alright, alright, we came out to have fun, so let's all say a little less," Karida quickly mediated.
He then turned to Elsa and whispered, "Elsa, bear with it. Grandpa's health isn't good; he can't get upset."
Karida had figured it out. Among the three, only Elsa could influence the situation. If she wasn't happy, no one would be.
But Elsa was the most reasonable in this regard and responded better to soft words than hard ones.
Sure enough, she pursed her lips and began to smile at George, "It's my fault for speaking too quickly. Don't be mad. Didn't we say we were going to play cards this afternoon? Let's go."
George finally cheered up, "We're playing for money today, or it's no fun."
George's idea of fun was just changing locations to rest and play cards for a change of scenery. Although the card room at Stardream Resort wasn't nearly as luxurious as the one at the Price Estate, he was still very happy.
They drew cards to determine seating. Elsa sat to Karida's right, Luke to her left, and George across from her.
Margaret didn't know how to play, so she pulled up a chair to watch beside Luke.
After the earlier unpleasantness, Margaret's infatuated gaze at Luke had toned down, but she still stayed close, serving tea and trying to feed Luke grapes.
"No, thank you. I'm not eating." Luke, still upset about the earlier scene, refused her outright this time.
In front of everyone, Margaret felt a bit awkward and had to suppress her desire to perform, nodding obediently.
