Chapter 66 Debbie Harrison's Birthday
Elsa took a week off to take care of Vincent, so her plans to return to work were naturally postponed.
The comforting thing for Elsa was that Vincent's rejection reaction was minimal, and he was adapting very well to the new heart. The attending physician predicted that within six months, he could return to normal life with regular medication.
Vincent was getting healthier by the day, and Elsa's sleep quality improved significantly.
Perhaps it was because of Luke. In the past, Elsa would find it hard to fall back asleep after waking up from nightmares. Now, every time she woke up, she found herself in Luke's arms, falling back asleep to the sound of his strong heartbeat.
Over time, Elsa noticed that her nightmares had significantly decreased.
Elsa commuted between the hospital and the villa every day. Although she felt tired, she was happy to see Vincent's health condition improving and gradually felt more at ease.
Everything was moving in a positive direction.
'If Leslie were still alive, seeing Vincent recover would surely make her very happy,' Elsa thought.
"Tomorrow I can go back to work," Elsa dried her wet hair with a towel in front of the dressing table while talking to Luke.
"No rush, tomorrow is my mother's birthday. Go back to work the day after tomorrow," Luke said, having just finished washing up. He sat behind Elsa, looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Luke had arranged for a dress for Elsa two days ago but hadn't had the chance to tell her because she was so busy.
Over the past few days, Elsa had vaguely heard the servants discussing Debbie's 50th birthday party. She thought Debbie wouldn't want to see her and even didn't think it had anything to do with her.
"Am I going too?" Elsa paused with the hairdryer in her hand and asked with puzzled expression.
Thinking of Debbie, Elsa's knee started to ache faintly.
"You are her daughter-in-law, the wife of the Taylor family's heir. Of course, you have to go," Luke said matter-of-factly.
"Is this Mrs. Taylor's wish too?" Elsa thought that Debbie would not want to see her on her birthday.
"Of course, she specifically asked for you to come," Luke said. Seeing Elsa's troubled expression, he added, "With me there, no one will dare to trouble you."
"Did you hear something?" Elsa turned to look at Luke, wondering if he was referring to her punishment.
"Yes," Luke didn't hide it, "You were punished that day. Why didn't you tell me?"
"No need. Mrs. Taylor is just protective of her son and doesn't want him to be hurt by a bad woman. I can understand her," Elsa said sincerely.
'I have seen much worse from the Miller family growing up. Compared to them, Debbie's actions were nothing.' Elsa thought.
"Are you a bad woman?" Luke raised an eyebrow.
"I don't know," Elsa said as she lowered her eyes dejectedly. She had never done anything evil except for dealing with the Miller family by any means.
In a way, Luke was indeed a victim.
"Next time something like this happens, you must tell me first. Understand?" Luke couldn't stand seeing Elsa like this. He sighed inwardly, took the hairdryer from her, and started drying her hair himself.
"Got it," Elsa's voice had a dreamy quality in the whirring warm air.
Although she agreed, Elsa still felt it was unreasonable for Debbie to specifically ask her to attend.
Luke said she had to go as his wife, but Debbie refused to acknowledge Elsa as her daughter-in-law.
Elsa wondered what Debbie was planning.
'Would she embarrass me in public? No, the Taylor family's reputation is paramount. So Debbie wouldn't want to ruin her own party. Never mind, with Luke and so many people watching, Debbie wouldn't do anything to me,' Elsa thought.
'I just need to quietly lower my presence and endure one meal. And it will be over soon,' Elsa comforted herself.
