Chapter 442 Jace
Was this the infamous Valeria tycoon Karen's been talking about?
Elsa observed the man from a distance. He was tall and clearly older, with eyes so cold and calculating they made her want to keep her distance.
For some reason, Elsa felt he didn't have the typical Valeria demeanor.
The man was also scrutinizing her, his eyes filled with intense interest.
Elsa was all too familiar with that look—an unsettling mix of malice and blatant curiosity she had seen in many men before.
Already disliking him, Elsa felt even more uncomfortable under his gaze.
What's Karen thinking? She sure knows how to pick 'em, Elsa thought to herself.
The man approached, and Karen spoke up, "Mr. Butler, you finally made it. Shopping alone is no fun."
She spoke in English, her tone a mix of flattery and playful teasing.
Mr. Butler? Isn't the Valeria tycoon's last name Ramirez?
Elsa was puzzled.
The man ignored Karen and kept staring at Elsa, unwilling to look away.
"Jace," he said, extending his hand for a handshake.
Elsa, already unimpressed with Karen, had no intention of being polite to her associates.
She didn't extend her hand and instead gave a haughty, mocking smile, casually saying, "Nice to meet you," before turning to walk away.
"Say 'nice to meet you' and then run off? Ms. Miller, you're quite the intriguing girl," Jace drawled lazily behind her.
He knows me? What's his deal?
Elsa stopped and replied coolly, "We have a saying, 'Throw the baby out with the bathwater.' I dislike Karen, so I see no need to get acquainted with Mr. Butler."
"First time hearing that one. Seems Ms. Miller is not only brave and clever but also well-read," Jace responded.
"Mr. Butler, have we met before?" She couldn't help but turn back, puzzled.
Now Jace looked confused. "Ms. Miller doesn't know me?"
"Should I? Mr. Butler, you're quite full of yourself," Elsa retorted, not in the mood to banter, and walked away with lingering questions.
Later that night, Elsa mentioned the encounter to Luke while lying in bed. Luke said, "You should know him. He's Sean's brother."
"What?"
Sean—the man who shot Luke and got sent to prison. Thinking of him still sent chills down Elsa's spine.
"He's been abroad. Now, he's the head of the biggest gang in Maplewood City. The bomb under the car last time was his doing."
Luke finally told her about the bomb.
He had been investigating Jace but never connected him to Karen, so he hadn't realized their collusion.
After his men saw Karen and Jace shopping for jewelry together, further investigation revealed the truth.
Karen had fled to Valeria, found an older tycoon, and rebranded herself—all orchestrated by Jace.
Karen's return wasn't accompanied by the Valeria tycoon; she had been seen with Jace for days, looking every bit the gangster's moll.
In truth, they were using each other—for money, power, and physical needs.
It was a huge scheme—one avenging a father, the other a brother. Their alliance was bound to lead to even more sordid deeds.
"We can't just sit and wait for danger. We need to eliminate it before it strikes."
Elsa was momentarily stunned by the revelation but quickly regained her composure.
She needed to come up with a flawless plan to ensure their safety.
