Chapter 241 Elsa Is Too Inconsiderate
At this moment, any explanation seemed futile. Luke looked at Elsa's frail and despondent face, feeling nothing but heartache.
She was such a proud and strong-willed person, now lying in a hospital bed, so fragile that it seemed like she might collapse at any second.
How could he let her suffer such grievances and such pain!
"I am at your mercy. Whatever you desire, whatever you want me to do, I will comply without question," Luke implored. "Just don't leave me, don't abandon me," Luke barely managed to steady himself and spoke to Elsa.
"I don't want anything; I just want a divorce," Elsa insisted.
"Elsa, you just woke up and might be impulsive. How about this: you rest first, and we'll talk about this in a couple of days," Karida, thinking he had some rapport with Elsa, braced himself to persuade her.
Elsa just turned her head away and said nothing more.
The next day, Luke was not allowed to visit Elsa's room.
She was always a decisive person. When she saw Luke again, she still didn't cry or make a scene, just said calmly, "Every time I see you, I feel pain. Your constant presence in my room makes it hard for my body to recover."
This single sentence was a thousand times more effective than crying, throwing a tantrum, or mocking.
In the end, Luke didn't even know how he managed to walk out of the room.
He could handle multinational projects worth tens or hundreds of billions of dollars, but he couldn't manage his own family well.
Luke sat on a hospital bench, feeling so dejected that he was cold from head to toe.
"Luke, I understand Elsa's pain, but it isn't your fault. Don't blame yourself too much. She is being too inconsiderate; you didn't want such a thing to happen either!" Margaret remarked.
She had just finished Joe's funeral and rushed to the hospital upon hearing about Elsa's desire for a divorce.
"Is that really what you think?" Luke looked up, his bloodshot eyes fixed on her.
Margaret, usually tactful, couldn't quite grasp the meaning behind Luke's words at that moment.
"What I mean is, my dad didn't choose to die at this time either. You came over because of my dad, which is right. Elsa is indeed being unreasonable," Margaret continued, bracing herself.
She quickly added, "Of course, I understand her pain. I'll go explain to her. Luke, I feel so sorry for you."
"Margaret, don't disturb her," Luke suddenly stood up, the redness in his eyes growing more intense. "If I find out any of your underhanded actions that disturb her, I will disregard Uncle Joe's wishes and send you out of the country."
Joe's dying wish was clear: Although, Margaret had done many wrong things to get Luke, he hoped that, for the sake of the past friendship between the Collins family and the Taylor family, Luke wouldn't hold it against her.
That day, the Collins family cried a lot.
Later, Margaret clung to Luke and cried for half an afternoon, causing him to miss Elsa's message for help.
He could explain to Elsa that he was deeply connected to the Collins family and was busy comforting Nyx and Margaret that day, so he missed the message. But what meaning did these words hold? Time wouldn't turn back, and his child wouldn't come back.
If he had the ability to foresee the future, even if the whole world called him cold-hearted and ruthless, he would have stayed by Elsa's side and never left!
"Did you find out about that car?" he asked Max over the phone.
"Yes," Max hesitated to speak.
"Go on," Luke had no patience left.
"The car's brake pads were tampered with. After he locked Mrs. Taylor in the warehouse, he had an accident on the road and died in the crash."
